University of Illinois
Division of Intercollegiate
Athletics Mission Statement
To have the highest quality athletic program in all sports that allows the University of Illinois teams to compete for championships in the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Criteria for Excellence Ron Turner Position: Head Coach Experience: Eighth Season The University of Illinois As Illinois head football coach Ron Turner enters his eighth year at the helm of the program, he looks to continue to build a program that just three years ago enjoyed an outright Big Ten Championship. Turner has engineered offenses that have broken school records and have the Illini among the top scorers in the country. During his tenure, the Illinois offense has posted the best total yards numbers in consecutive years (2001 and 2002), recorded more points than any other Illini team on two occasions (1999 and 2001) and passed for over 3,000 yards twice (2001 and 2002). Looking at the all-time rushers in school history and you will find three of the Top-5 from the Turner era. Just two years ago, the Illini bid farewell to the greatest receiving corp the program has seen with four players making NFL rosters in 2003. The 2002 offense set a new school mark for total offense, averaging 446.3 yards per game, which also ranked ninth nationally. Turner’s high-powered offenses now rank in three of the school’s top-5 spots. Quarterback Jon Beutjer led the conference in passing and the team held the top spot as well for the second straight year. Illinois fans saw the compilation of probably the greatest wide receiving corp in school history as Brandon Lloyd, Walter Young, Aaron Moorehead and Greg Lewis accounted for 57 touchdowns and over 7,700 receiving yards their four years. At least three of the four rank on every career receiving record list and all four are on NFL rosters.

This webpage is dedicated to the Houston Oilers. I will also have some of the Tenneessee Oiler links, but mostly this is geared to the Houston era. I am trying to make it the most complete list of links for the Oilers around. I have been a fan of the Houston Oilers since as far back as I can remember. I grew up in Houston and was hitting my teen-age years in the era of Earl Campbell , Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, Dan Pastorini, Dave Casper, and Kenny Stabler. Sigh, those were indeed the "good ole days". I remember being totally heartbroken when Bum Phillips went to New Orleans taking the heart of the team. It just wasn't right seeing Earl in a Saints uniform. What I have done here is compile links to my team, even though I no longer live in Houston, well neither do they but the Oilers will always be "my" team. I will try and keep up these links even though the team is now called the "Tennessee Oilers". Hopefully Houston can get the name back and form a new and maybe even improved Oilers team. Well, here are the links and even though it has been done before at the bottom of this I am going to put the words to the Houston Oiler fight song , the latest schedule and scores and the most current statistics . Thanks for stopping by. LUV YA BLUE!

Aging Moon, Krieg still surviving in a young man's game
By Ron Lesko, Associated Press writer
MINNEAPOLIS In the movies, Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon portray two crotchety old friends playing an ageless game of top-this in their small Minnesota town.
Tonight, Warren Moon and Dave Krieg will perform the NFL's version of "Grumpy Old Men."
Three weeks short of his 40th birthday, Moon is the NFL's oldest quarterback. Krieg isn't far behind, celebrating his 38th birthday on Oct. 20.
The geezers will try once again to outdo each other when the Chicago Bears visit the Minnesota Vikings, the fourth time in the last five years the quarterbacks have met.
"He's the kind of guy who takes care of himself (physically), that's why he's still around," Moon said. "The same with me. Hopefully we'll both be able to play a whole game."
Moon and Krieg aren't grumpy, but they are friends and old men by NFL standards.
They became the oldest quarterbacks to start the same game last year, when Moon and the Vikings beat Krieg and the Cardinals in overtime at Arizona. They'll surpass their own mark today, combining for 77 years in age and 30 seasons of NFL experience.
Moon has beaten Krieg twice in the last four years, in 1992 when Moon's Oilers beat Krieg's Chiefs and last year. Krieg beat Moon in '94 when the Vikings lost at Detroit, although Moon played less than three quarters because of a knee injury.

A Tribute to Dave Krieg
Ahhh...the good old days!!! How many times did we hear: "Krieg to Largent.....T-O-U-C-H-D-O-W-N !!!!" I couldn't help but get excited when there was talk that Dave Krieg might come back to the Seahawks for the 1997 season! All the memories came flooding back, and believe me, there are many GREAT memories to recall! How sweet it would have been to see him wearing the Silver, Blue and Green of the Seahawks again... And then to be tempted again in 1999, when Dave showed interests in returning home. Home! Doesn't that sound good?! He has since announced his retirement from the NFL, but some day we'll be able to welcome him back ... to our Ring of Honor! Until that time that he takes his rightful place, we invite you to join us in the celebration of our beloved former Seahawks Quarterback, Dave Krieg.

Here's what people are saying:
I have a story about Dave that was related to me by a close friend recently. I think it is a great story about the kind of person Dave is. The story might be a bit confusing at first because my friend's name is Dave as well. For the purpose of the story, I've referred to my firend as "David" and to Krieg as "Krieg" or "Dave".
Submitted by Nick Swinhart, Washington State
I have known Dave and his family my whole life. My dad and his dad went to the state patrol academy and worked the road together. Dave and both of his brothers babysat for me and my sister countless times while we were growing up. When Dave started with Seattle we went to every game he played against the Packers and at every game I was probably the only one with a Dave Krieg jersey on. After all of the games we went to the bus area after every game and got to spend some time with Dave before he had to leave. But my best memory of Dave is when he was playing in a golf tournament in milwaukee in the summer of 1993. We walked the whole course with him and then stayed after the game we stayed for a while and he introduced us to quite a few professional athletes. And when he introduced me he said " this is my friend Stephanie" and had his hand on my shoulder. He is an incerdible man that comes from a great family. I am very pleased to consider him a friend.

Krieg on Krieg! "It's a funny way to be in the record books," quarterback Dave Krieg said. "He (Derrick Thomas) got seven sacks on me, but we won the game. I can live with that." "I've proven a lot of people wrong just by making it this far. I know I'm a good quarterback and I can't let what other people say about me affect how I play on the field. That's a defeatist attitude and that's not the way I am." Sept. 1986 On being the leader in all-time fumbles and number of times being sacked: "What an honor. I didn't think I would hang around this long. If you told me 18 years ago that I would still be playing at 39, I'd have said you were crazy." You expect Dave Krieg to get nervous about a little ol' football game or a 14-point deficit? "Seventeen years. C'mon. I've done this before," he said after leading the Chicago Bears back to a 19-17 win over the Oakland Raiders. "My career wouldn't have gotten off the ground if it hadn't been for Warren Moon's decision earlier in his career to go to Houston. I was riding a snowmobile back home in Wisconsin when I found out that Warren signed with Houston. I said, 'That's good for Warren' and then I got to stay here. On his decision in 1997 not to sign with Detroit: "I wanted to come to Seattle and see what they were thinking. Maybe it ultimately cost me a job in Detroit. Maybe there is a silver lining and a reason for that."

John Elway: Good-bye Mile High By John Elway
    Special to NFL.com
(Editor's note: Future Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway will be writing a weekly column for NFL.com throughout the 2001 season.) Denver Broncos . Last Saturday provided one more. While the Broncos have already begun playing this season in the newly built Invesco Field, we had one last chance to say goodbye to Mile High Stadium as I led a team of former Broncos in a game of flag football against an all-star team led by Joe Montana. It was a unique experience. We had close to 40,000 people there and that was a tribute to the fans of Denver and the support they've always shown. It's always tough to say goodbye to an old stadium. I know a lot of fans didn't want to see the new stadium, but it was time for change. There were many, many great times in Mile High, but I think the fans as well as the Broncos deserved a new stadium. It's nice that those fans now have a place to go that's comfortable and easy to get to, with all the luxuries of those other new stadiums around the league. There were 26 Broncos alumni on hand, including Randy Gradishar, Steve Foley, Karl Mecklenburg, Barney Chavous, Louis Wright and Rick Upchurch. As an old guy, it was a heck of a lot of fun getting to run around and throw the ball again.

    History of the RSS fork
This is a brief history of RSS from July 2000 to November 2000, during which time RSS 0.9x and RSS 1.0 forked. I try to focus on specific people and conversations that document why the fork occurred. I was not involved in any of this, but much (not all) of the discussion has been publicly archived. So this is very much an history, and like any history, it is necessarily biased, selective, and incomplete. Eric van der Vlist Will RSS fork? Leigh Dodds RSS Modularization Perhaps the key benefit of RSS is its simplicity. The syntax for the format is easy to understand, and there are only a few self-explanatory tags to learn. This makes RSS files relatively trivial to produce. Dave Winer of Userland has recently added some new online documentation for RSS 0.91 , adding historical notes as well as capturing details of its common usage patterns. Developers on the RSS and Syndication mailing lists are now discussing future directions for RSS, the hope being to build on current successes and provide richer functionality. Fantasy Report
Fantasy Football: NFL Week 11 breakdown
By John Wick and Brian Scrobel
Special to Packer Plus Nov. 6, 1996 The month of November brings more preparation to fantasy football. Not only are you constantly evaluating players, making deals and getting ready for the stretch drive, you now have to look closely at the weather. As the cold winds work their way across the northern states, football leagues are going to be influenced. Is it cold and rainy? Is the snow coming down? What's the wind-chill factor? You must add these facts to your game-day routine. Outdoor northern teams, like Green Bay, New England and Buffalo have a second gear that they shift to in these conditions. But those southern teams that fly north have worlds of trouble. Keep the location of the game in mind when choosing a lineup. The bye weeks are over, so all of your good excuses are used up. You are nearing the final turn. Now is the time to make that trade or pick up that player that you want. Most leagues will have a trade/free agent deadline. Know these dates and make your final moves.
    Week 11 Breakdown
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati These two met in an unspectacular Week 7 battle, with the Steelers winning, 20-10. The only highlights were Jerome Bettis gaining over 100 yards and Carl Pickens catching 9 passes. This week things should be different. The Bengals are a new team under Bruce Coslet. Ki-Jana Carter's 3 TDs in the last two weeks equal the Bengals' leading TD rusher last season. Mike Tomczak left the Rams game with an injury. No matter who starts, the Steelers will use their fourth-ranked rushing offense. Don't be too excited about Erric Pegram's scores, it was strictly mop-up duty.
