Zone Rider
Hey gang!! Here's the scoop on the Zone Rider - Chapter One. Biographical mumbo-jumbo: Born: December 19, 1970 (Other than the year, that's the same day as Reggie White, Santana Dotson, and the retired Sean Jones.) Born and raised in: Westmont, Illinois (about 30 miles west of Chicago)
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 210 lbs.
Hair: Started life as a blonde (12-14 years), but it's turned brown over the years.
Eyes: Depends on the weather, my mood, and what I'm wearing blue or steel grey Hobbies (outside of the Packers and football): Golf, Skiing (downhill and cross-country), hockey, basketball, volleyball, listening to music (I can't play a thing), politics, mischief and general mayhem (just seeing if you were paying attention), hunting, canoeing, fishing, watching movies, and just being with my wife. Should you give a rip about any of the above information? Probably not. If you do...you can read my autobiography "Why Hawaii And Norway Are Not Near Each Other" due out next Spring. (I'm only kidding). Seriously...I was born and raised in Bear-country. However, my parents are from Wisconsin originally. We only lived in Illinois because that's where Dad's territory was centered. I have a sister who will hit 40 in November and a brother who will hit 37 just before the Packers win Superbowl XXXII. In 1987, my folks bought 140 acres of land in Richland Center, Wisconsin (Badger's birthplace is only 25 minutes west of there). The house was completed in the summer of 1989.

BY JOHN SHIVERS Baywatch - Pack vs. Niners This Sunday's NFC Championship contest has been dubbed the "de facto Super Bowl," as it matches the two best football teams: the Packers and 49ers. As such, a profusion of media meisters hit the Bay area this week, asking a litany of absolutely stupid questions. Want a sample? The San Jose Mercury News reported that one writer actually asked San Francisco head coach Steve Mariucci, "If Brett Favre and Steve Young were both tied to railroad tracks with a locomotive coming and you only had time to save one of them, which quarterback would you save and why?" There has also been a lot of talk this week about the somewhat incestuous relationship between the Packers and Niners. Green Bay's coach (Mike Holmgren) used to work for San Francisco, and the Niners' head guy (Mariucci) used to work for the Pack. Mariucci used to live near Favre and their kids went to the same grade school. Meanwhile, most fans know Holmgren grew up in the Bay area. It seems as if every little thing is being brought up about this weekend's matchup except football. Fact is, there's a football game to be played this Sunday and the Green Bay Packers had better be ready to play one.

The Miami Dolphins declined Thursday to match San Diego's three-year, $9.5 million offer for defensive end Marco Coleman . He will now play for Chargers coach Bobby Ross, his former Georgia Tech coach. Starting all 16 games for the Dolphins last season, Coleman ranked seventh in tackles with 65 and second in sacks with 6.5. ... Entering his fifth year in the NFL, defensive lineman Santana Dotson said Thursday that leaving Tampa Bay and signing on with the Green Bay Packers has him eager for action. "I wish we had a game next week. I'm really ready to play and get this thing started.," Dotson said Thursday. Dotson, 26, an unrestricted free agent, signed a three-year deal with Green Bay which is expected to average about $1.6 million a season. ... Linebacker Michael Brooks , the leading tackler for the New York Giants the last two seasons, signed Thursday with the Detroit Lions. Brooks, an unrestricted free agent, signed a two-year, 3.6 million contract that included a $1 million signing bonus, The New York Times and the cable station New York 1 reported. In a related move, the Lions released tight end Rodney Holman . ... The Arizona Cardinals signed free agent quarterback Kent Graham on Thursday. Graham, an eighth-round draft choice by the New York Giants in 1992, spent last season with the Detroit Lions, but never was activated. In three seasons with the Giants, he started four games and played in 28. His best year was as a rookie, when he started three games because of an injury to

    Issue #25/106, Dec 21, 2000
It was a good year for NFL names, with fall traditionals like Jamal and Terrell blooming gloriously against a background of exciting newcomers like Lethon and J'Juan. The eXile's fourth annual all-NFL-name team mirrors the year, drawing upon both history and innovation. The best pro football names of this year would match up well, we believe, with the best football names of any other year.
The team was determined by virtue of the first-, second-, and third-place votes of each of our 337 member writers. Their results of their position-by-position balloting are as follows, the year 2000 all-eXile name team:
    QB
Ist team - Daunte Culpepper, Minnesota Vikings
2nd team - Scott Driesbach, Oakland Raiders
Culpepper: the clear choice among starters. His name had a great year. Driesbach was the choice over convincingly-named Denver backup Jarius Jackson on account of the positional specifics. Backup quarterbacks are always named Todd, Scott, and Andy, and have last names like Bouman and Driesbach. Otherwise, they wouldn't be backups.

Damon Moore Santana Dotson ProFootballWeekly.com asks personnel expert Joel Buchsbaum for his thoughts on the hottest topics in football.
Bears add depth at safety by signing Moore
SS Damon Moore visited with Buffalo and had interest from other teams, including New England, but eventually signed a two-year deal worth as much as $1.8 million with Chicago. Moore tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the NFC championship game in St. Louis in January and was allowed to leave Philadelphia because the Eagles did not believe he would be able to contribute this season. The Bears, who could still start second-year SS Mike Green, are confident they will get something out of Moore this season.
The Redskins also signed OL Kipp Vickers, who is at best a seventh or eighth lineman. His versatility can make him a plus for Washington, but if Vickers has to start at one of the guard spots, the Redskins could be in trouble. The Archives

    Buccaneers quick hits
    Compiled by Times staff writer
    Quick hits:
The Packers lead the all-time series 26-15-1, winning 13 of the past 16. The teams have split the series in each of the last two seasons, including a 24-22 victory at RJS to end a six-game losing skid for the Bucs. The Bucs need just three more sacks to tie the club record of 44 set in 1997. DT Warren Sapp leads the club with 10.5, just shy of Lee Roy Selmon's club record of 13. Packers S Darren Sharper is tied with the Bucs' Donnie Abraham, Atlanta's Ray Buchanan and Detroit's Kurt Schulz with six. Bucs PK Martin Gramatica has connected on 10 straight FG attempts, including three from 50 yards or more to tie a club record. Packers coach Mike Sherman is the third head coach in Green Bay in three years. RICK STROUD
