Robert Brooks Football Camp
Featuring NFL Players, Major College Coaches and High School Coaches Sessions held at University of Wisconsin - Green Bay CAMP BENEFITS
  • Tuition includes: instruction, lodging, meals, insurance, Robert Brooks Camp t-shirt, autographed picture and certificate. Day campers receive the same benefits with the exception of breakfast and lodging.
  • Practice both offense and defense as well as being trained and tested in the areas of speed, strength and agility.
  • Evening 7 on 7 Passing Games and highlight films.
  • Wide variety of exposure to major college coaches from the WAC, Big Twelve and Big Ten.
  • Lectures on Fitness, Nutrition, Drug Abuse, Motivation, Self-Discipline, Academics, Strength and Conditioning.
INSTRUCTION Our experienced staff will emphasize fundamentals, form and technique as our program is a NON-CONTACT CAMP. There will be no pads worn. Campers will be grouped according to age, size and ability in order that they can compete against boys of similar talents. Each camper will work on both offense and defense. Our camper to coach ratio is kept at 10 to 1 so that each youngster will receive individual one on one instruction in areas such as passing, receiving, running, blocking, and tackling. Because football is a team game, each camper will also be required to run several drills in a group type situation, so an individual learns to operate within the team concept. Along with the basic football skills, each camper will be professionally trained and tested in the areas of speed, strength and agility. This will allow him to maximize the development of his overall athletic ability.

2 other recruits could join Brooks at FUMA
By DOUG DOUGHTY
THE ROANOKE TIMES
John Shuman, postgraduate football coach at Fork Union Military Academy, said Tuesday he is finalizing plans that would bring three Virginia signees into his program. Shuman met this week with UVa recruits Ahmad Brooks, Keenan Carter and Robert Armstrong, who are in Hampton for the Virginia High School Coaches Association All-Star games. "They seem to be pretty well-settled that this is what they've got to do," Shuman said. Brooks' mother said this week that her son, rated the No.1 prospect in Virginia by The Roanoke Times, is a partial qualifier who would be ineligible to play for the Cavaliers in 2002. Virginia head coach Al Groh had indicated that UVa would accept Brooks as a partial qualifier; however, the Brooks family was reluctant to forfeit a year's eligibility. UVa recruiting coordinator Mike London had made Shuman aware that Carter and Armstrong did not meet NCAA guidelines for freshman eligibility.

Williams, 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, has been timed in 4.45 seconds for 40 yards. According to SuperPrep, Williams had scholarship offers from Penn State, Pittsburgh and Clemson. He also considered South Carolina. Virginia has 11 commitments, counting 2002 signees Ahmad Brooks, Robert Armstrong and Keenan Carter, who are in prep school. Williams was among a group of recruits in attendance for the South Carolina-Virginia game, including the nation's second-rated offensive lineman, Jordy Lipsey from Longwood, Fla. What makes the institute distinctive is its focus on technological, managerial and cultural perspectives, as opposed to the physiological and psychological aspects of athletic performance. Founded in 1994 through a $2.5 million pledge from alumnus Robert H. Brooks, the Brooks Institute for Sports Science was established in memory of four members of the Brooks' organization who died in an airplane crash en route to a NASCAR race in 1993. The institute has fostered sports-related research, outreach programs and initiatives that include the following:

CULLUM, ROBERT BROOKS (1912-1981). Robert Brooks Cullum, cofounder of Tom Thumb-Page Food Stores and civic leader, son of Ashley Wilson and Eloise (Brooks) Cullum, was born on May 10, 1912, in Dallas. While attending North Dallas High School he was quarterback on the football team despite his short height of 5'6". He continued as quarterback during his single term at Kemper Military School in Missouri before transferring to Southern Methodist University, where he received his bachelor of science in journalism in 1933. Cullum planned on a career in advertising, but the Great Depression qv left him unable to find a job. Therefore, he went into his father's wholesale food business after graduation. On July 6, 1934, he married Dorothy Rogers; they had four children. Cullum and his brother Charles both worked in the small family business his father had started. In the 1940s their biggest client was Toro Food Stores, a failing food chain. The owner fled to South America owing the Cullums $200,000. In 1948 the Cullum brothers took over the Toro Food Chain in order to avoid bankruptcy, took out a loan, and renamed the chain Tom Thumb. The first advertising, designed by Bob Cullum, was placed in the Dallas Morning News qv in 1948. In 1966 the brothers bought out Page Drug Stores. Eventually the two chains merged as Tom Thumb-Page. In 1981 the chain included 132 grocery stores, meat-packing plants, and a wholesale business that supplied restaurants and hotels.

http://www.alumni.hbs.edu/bulletin/1998/october/success/brooks.html
While the contrasts loom large, it is clear from the passion with which Brooks discusses his work that his decision to leave the world of investment management for the church was the right move. On a typical day, the warm, affable minister might meet with a couple planning to be married, deliver communion to a housebound parishioner, help prepare a meal at a soup kitchen, and work on his weekly sermon. As rector of Christ Church, he plays a vital role in most of the big moments in the lives of the one hundred families who regularly participate in church activities - baptizing babies, delivering graveside eulogies, and participating in everything that happens in between. A native of metropolitan Washington, D.C., Brooks was brought up Episcopalian but stopped going to church when he entered Harvard College. After graduating cum laude with a degree in English and a varsity letter in football, Brooks served in the Navy and then entered HBS. It was not until he was long established as a financial counselor that he returned to the church - with the primary goal of giving his two children the spiritual education he had come to appreciate in his own formative years. When he began teaching Sunday school, however, he soon found that "teaching those kids was more important to me than what I was doing in the investment business." In the early 1980s, when a young priest asked him if he had considered becoming a minister, Brooks admitted he had, but explained that he thought he could contribute more by maintaining his day job and devoting his free time to his parish. "When my friend responded, ÔI don't think that's the total answer for you,' I knew he was right," says Brooks, who went home that night and began discussing with his family the calling he felt he could no longer ignore.
