Examples of self similarity in fractals with examples from mathematics and photos of the physical world. I wonder whether fractal images are not touching the very structure of our brains. Is there a clue in the infinitely regressing character of such images that illuminates our perception of art? Could it be that a fractal image is of such extraordinary richness, that it is bound to resonate with our neuronal circuits and stimulate the pleasure I infer we all feel?

To download the catalogue, click here The very-low frequency sky survey of discrete sources has been obtained in the Institute of Radio Astronomy of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences (Kharkov, Ukraine) with the UTR-2 radio telescope at a number of the lowest frequencies used in contemporary radio astronomy within the range from 10 to 25 MHz. The UTR-2 (Ukrainian T-shape Radiotelescope) is the largest in the world array operated at decametric wavelength, which is located near Grakovo village, about 80 km from Kharkov; north-east Ukraine. The collective area of the UTR-2 is 150000 sq.m., and the resolution is about 40'x40' at the middle frequency 16.7 MHz. The UTR-2 survey one can found in the following papers: Braude S.Ya., Megn A.V., Rashkovski S.L., Ryabov B.P., Sharykin N.K., Sokolov K.P., Tkatchenko A.P., Zhouck I.N., 1978, Astrophys. REVIEW ARTICLE: "SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS FOR VIDEO ASTRONOMY"
Planetary images with Supercircuits' low light video surveillance camera head, the PC164C, which uses a very sensitive Sony Super HAD EXview CCD video chip. The extreme sensitivity of the camera, rated at 0.0003 lux, allows the use of larger image scale when imaging the planets resulting in higher resolution images. A 25cm Newtonian @ f/30 was used to image Saturn and a 15cm Maksutov-Cassegrain at f/50 for Jupiter. VIDEO CAPTURE ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY
Saturn reappearing from behind the moon on September 10, 2001
15cm Maksutov-Cassegrain @ f/20 Astrovid 2000 As seeing conditions at my suburban home in Livermore, California are always turbulent I have adopted the use of video for my astrophotography. From the very first images made back in 1999, I was producing results several orders of magnitude better than the best film photos I had ever taken of the moon and planets through a scope. All of the images on this web site were made from video, either with an Astrovid 2000 video, a StellaCam EX or Supercircuits' PC23C, PC33C or PC164C video surveillance cameras using a 25cm f/6 Newtonian or 15cm f/10 Maksutov-Cassegrain. Prime focus, Barlow projection or eyepiece projection were utilized to vary image scale (magnification). Video was recorded to a Hi8 camcorder and individual frames were captured to computer with a Snappy frame grabber, or, video frames were captured directly to computer with a PixelSmart 512-8 frame grabber. Image processing with RegiStax and Adobe Photo Shop. All imaging was done from my suburban driveway in Livermore CA.

    CCD ASTRONOMICAL IMAGES FROM CANBERRA
Welcome! My name is Steve Crouch and I live in Canberra in the Australian Capital territory. Click here to see my geographical location. Canberra is a city of about 300,000 and the skies are reasonably good at my outer suburban location. I have been involved in astronomy since the sixties and currently own a C14, C8 and a Meade ETX. My biggest interest is astrophotography - until 1994 with film, since then with various CCD cameras as detailed below:
    • ST-10XME. Used for deep sky imaging between F6 and F11. The CCD has 2184 x 1472 6.8 micron pixels and is usually binned 2x2 for the C14. ST-9E. Used for deep sky imaging between F6 and F11. The CCD has 512 x 512 20 micron pixels. ST-5C. This is SBIG's entry level camera with 320 x 240 10 micron pixels and I use it for lunar and planetary imaging. I previously used a ST-6 and there are still some ST-6 shots on this site. The ST-6 was retired in 2001 after seven years of excellent service.
For deep-sky imaging, I have used various focal reducers which give effective focal ratios on the C14 from about F6.2 to F7.4.
