Introduction
Aster, Agrupació Astronòmica de Barcelona (Astronomical Association of Barcelona) is a non-profit private society, which objective is gathering every astronomy lover in Barcelona and Catalonia. Both beginners and experts can become Aster members, the only requirement being to share our enthusiasm for astronomy. Aster efforts are aimed to spread out the science of astronomy as well as encouraging for sky observation. Furthermore, Aster members take advantage of support for their astronomical activities, either by facilitating information or by suppliying scientific instrumental.
History
Aster was created in 1948 by a group of young catalan astronomy lovers, whose leader, Ernest Guille i Moliné, was the first president. During the fifties, Aster carried out significant efforts to popularize astronomy in Catalonia, as well as to encourage for astronomical observation. It is important to point out that Aster's observatory was inaugurated in 1953 . I is placed on the roof of the association headquarters. Between 1956 and 1958, during the International Geophysical Year, Aster members payed special attention to the daily observation and astrophotography of the Sun. This work was carried out in collaboration with other worlwide amateur and professional astronomy groups. At the end of the fifties Aster was recognized by distinguished astronomers as a prestigious astronomical association.
