It is done in quasi-documentary style and tells about the life of Valerie Solanas (Lili Taylor) who shot Andy Warhol (Jared Harris) because "he had too much control over my life." The reason he had so much control is because he would not produce her play claiming it was "too disgusting even for us." I can not even repeat its name in this G rated review of an R rated film. The movie starts with Andy alive but his body bloody and quivering after being shot. The police want to know why she shot him, but she keeps telling them it is too complicated to explain. The film then switches to her time in college and works it way back to the shooting.

Andy Warhol :
Biography
A ndy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1928. In 1945 he entered the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) where he majored in pictorial design. Upon graduation, Warhol moved to New York where he found steady work as a commercial artist. He worked as an illustrator for several magazines including Vogue Harper's Bazaar and The New Yorker and did advertising and window displays for retail stores such as Bonwit Teller and I. Miller. Prophetically, his first assignment was for Glamour magazine for an article titled "Success is a Job in New York."
Throughout the 1950s, Warhol enjoyed a successful career as a commercial artist, winning several commendations from the Art Director's Club and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. In these early years, he shortened his name to "Warhol." In 1952, the artist had his first individual show at the Hugo Gallery, exhibiting Fifteen Drawings Based on the Writings of Truman Capote . His work was exhibited in several other venues during the 1950s, including his first group show at The Museum of Modern Art in 1956.

Catharton
Artists W : Warhol, Andy Andy Warhol (real name Andrew Warhola) 6th August 1928 - 22nd February 1987
Born in Pittsburgh to Czechoslovakian parents, Andy Warhol graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1949 and went on to work as a professional illustrator.
The conjunction of commerce and art seemed to lead to his big break. In 1962 the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles held an exhibition of his personal artwork including the now famous Campbell's Soup Cans. The soup cans made him (ironically, of course) a household name, at least in the art world. Andrew Warhola became one of the first and most famous members of the Pop Art set.
For many years after the exhibition he produced what is considered to be his best work, often based around altered and painted-over photographs, and poorly duplicated screen-print reproductions of his work.
Warhol's art often dealt with the superficial nature of the modern celebrity. When he is mentioned nowadays, it is most often in conjunction with a remark he made (although I can't for the life of me find out when or where he is supposed to have said it), that: 'In the future, everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes.'
A member of Warhol's circle, Valerie Solanas, is probably best known to the world for producing the SCUM (Society for Cutting Up Men) Manifesto, a pamphlet explaining how the male of the species should be systematically removed from society. In 1968, the year she published the manifesto, Solanas shot Andy Warhol. His health never fully recovered (he once remarked 'I always wished I had died, and I still wish that, because I could have gotten the whole thing over with.'), and the incident may have helped drive him to an early grave. After the shooting, Warhol concentrated on making experimental films.

About Face: Andy Warhol Portraits

17; Female Movie Star Composite c.1962. cat. 11; Self-Portrait 1980. Polaroid photograph. cat. 50; Self-Portrait 1981-82. Polaroid photograph. cat. 55.]

The Velvet Underground
The Sweet Nothings and the True Illusions They were the band of New York City. The band under Warhol's wings. A band lighter than the Doors, but too dark for the Californian crowd. Was it because of this? I've been set free and I've been bound
To the memories of yesterday's clouds
I've been set free and I've been bound And now I'm set free
I'm set free
I'm set free to find a new illusion I've been blinded but
Now I can see
What in the world has happened to me
The prince of stories who walks right by me And now I'm set free
I'm set free
I'm set free to find a new illusion I've been set free and I've been bound Let me tell you people what I've found I saw my head laughing rolling on the ground And now I'm set free I'm set free I'm set free to find a new illusion This is one of the best pieces of music that I've ever heard and simply not just unequivocal, either. Or was it about 'The Venus In Furs?' Or 'I'll Be Your Mirror?' Or maybe just 'Sunday Morning?'

Blow

A factory

WARHOL, ANDY
, artist. When the most famous image in pop art, Warhol's Campbell's Soup Can, was first exhibited in 1962, a nearby gallery displayed actual soup cans with the sign, "Get the real thing for 29 cents." Underlying the humor was an acknowledgment that Warhol's work threatened the concept of art as serious and transcendent: the artist's intentions, devoid of satire, seemed as cheerfully vacuous as his subject matter. Pop art's celebration of the banal and its unapologetic dismissal of higher aims soon lost their original shock value, yet Warhol, its best-known figure, remained provocative. Born Andrew Warhola in Pennsylvania, he graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie-Mellon University) in 1949 and moved to New York City, where he became a prize-winning commercial artist. His development as a fine artist began with wry, delicate drawings and culminated in the hard-edged graphic style that became instantly and ubiquitously recognizable. A solo show at New York's Stable Gallery in 1962 brought overnight fame. Calling his studio the Factory, Warhol used the glib impersonality of silk screen to produce mass market images by mass market means. His characteristic repetition of subjects—rows of Marilyn Monroes and stacks of soup cans—mimicked the effect of media saturation. He identified America's vacant icons with his paintings of Coke bottles and Brillo pads and the lure of the meretricious in his celebrity portraits of Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor, and others. Warhol's painting mirrored American consumer society but declined to judge it; any indictment of twentieth-century life was in the eye of the beholder. Even the disturbing "disaster" pictures of electric chairs, suicides, and car crashes suggest no more than the fascination of grisly tabloid scenes.
