After a struggling youth in London (from 1806) as an heraldric and enamel painter, in 1812 he exhibited at the Royal Academy the first of his grandiose Biblical paintings, such as 'The Fall of Babylon' (1819), 'Belshazzar's Feast' (1821) and 'The Deluge' (1826). The rediscovery of John Martin was launched by two refugees from Nazi Germany, Robert and Charlotte Frank, who set up as dealers in St James's, London. The paintings by Martin at the Tate Gallery were given by Charlotte in memory of her husband. Nor anything else that might grow in the little plot of garden outside the kitchen window. Katherine disputes this. She uses lots of herbs in her cooking and I very seldom refuse to eat a dish. Um, well never actually. But I do draw the line at mint. I always have. When I was growing up, mint was one of the few herbs we actually knew about. It was a traditional accompaniment to roast lamb. When we had roast beef we had Yorkshire pudding but when we had roast lamb we had mint sauce. Well, most of us did anyway.

Since the end of the war, the US has received thousands of reports about Americans being alive and in the hands of the Vietnamese. Many government officials state that they believe Americans are currently being held against their will in Southeast Asia. The question is, WHO ARE THEY, and HOW WILL WE BRING THEM HOME? If still alive, some of the POWs/MIAs are now in there 70's. They don't have much time left!! Is Major John M. Brutcher one of them that is still alive and waiting to return home to his loved ones ? Major Brutcher was seen ejecting from his aircraft, and landed in some trees. His emergency beeper signals were heard, and radio contact was established. He reported that he was suppended in mid air and unable to free himself from his parachute, because he had sustained a dislocated shoulder. Rescue efforts were supended until the following day because of intense hostile fire in the area. When the rescue helicopters returned, they found the Major's empty parachute still hanging in the tree. Further radio contact attempts with the Major were unsuccessful. John Brutcher's last known location was near the Ban Karai Pass in Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam. He was listed as Missing In Action, there is every reason to believe that the Vietnamese know his fate.
