Every day from 9 am to 7 pm T he Pierre Gianadda Foundation presents an exhibition of the works of Vincent van Gogh along the same lines as its exhibitions devoted to Degas in 1993, Manet in 1996 and Gauguin in 1998. As with these, it is being supervised by Ronald Pickvance, the art historian, who is a world authority on Van Gogh. This is the first Van Gogh exhibition in Switzerland for many years, the last one having taken place in Berne in 1973. The Foundation's aim is to create an exceptional event that marks the year 2000. T he exhibition brings together 90 paintings and works on paper. As for Van Gogh, drawing was often just as important as painting, we have secured the loan of drawings of major interest. Van Gogh's artistic odyssey began in 1880 and only lasted ten years. We follow the artist's development through an outline carefully designed to form a genuine retrospective. T he Dutch period (1881-5) traces Van Gogh's relentless efforts to master the techniques and difficulties of drawing, as well as the painter's initial works The Hague in 1882, to the point where he makes the sombre Dutch palette his own with works produced in Nuenen in 1884-5. Here we find familiar works as well as others rarely seen over the last few decades.

Welcome
This site shows you spots painted by Vincent van Gogh during his stay in Nuenen (1883-1885).
You can see those spots as they are today as well. A visitor's experience in Nuenen
My husband and I visited the documentation center in Nuenen and we GREATLY appreciated it. Our day trip to Nuenen was one of the most pleasant and comprehensive visits on our Van Gogh "pilgrimage". We were able to really feel the essence of this wonderful artist's time there. It was awesome to have visited the sites he painted and it is wonderful that they are still standing and are well-maintained (it's a pity that we couldn't visit the interior of the house and church but now we're asking for too much we think).
I would also like to add that the citizens of Nuenen were very welcoming. How to pronounce Vincent van Gogh in Dutch

The Troubled Life Of Vincent Van Gogh Low-cost Prints. Click Here and Type "Van Gogh" in search box. by Bonnie Butterfield (These Valuable Images Are Slow Loading-Please Read The Text While You Wait) Self Portrait Of Vincent Van Gogh The 19th century European society of Van Gogh's day was not ready to accept his truthful and emotionally morbid way of depicting his art subjects. His internal turbulence is clearly seen in most of his paintings, which set the stage for the direction of a new style of painting called Expressionism. It is characterized by the use of symbols and a style that expresses the artist's inner feelings about his subject. Therefore, an understanding of the paintings by Van Gogh requires insight into his turbulent life, because his style of painting is exemplified by a projection of the painter's inner experience onto the canvas he paints. In Vincent Van Gogh's own words, he said, "What lives in art and is eternally living, is first of all the painter, and then the painting." To understand an artist of Expressionism we must first explore their biography. Many of us can identify with the roadblocks that Vincent Van Gogh experienced in his many career and romantic pursuits, all ending in failure. His reaction to these experiences however, demonstrates a biological and psychological abnormality, causing behaviors that alienated those around him. As he became more isolated from society and began to pour all of his energies into painting, his eccentricities and outbursts developed pathological traits, which caused him first, to be institutionalized, and second, it led to his suicidal death at the young age of 37.

    INDEX:
Part 2: Remarks on Vincent van Goghs position in the history of fine art

Vincent van Gogh was dreaming of the day, when people could see all his works together. Then they would understand him. Vincent van Gogh wrote this in a letter to his brother Theo. Indeed, viewing his complete works clarifies a lot. I have now gone through it a dozen times. Each time new aspects come up. Vincent van Goghs works are sermons. It is a social tragedy, that poverty makes poor persons invisible for other people. Vincent van Gogh gives faces to the poor. I wonder if all the very rich owning early van Goghs recognise the faces on these pictures as those of real persons. What do they feel when such a person crosses their way? Peasant woman (detail) 1885 We at Visipix.com believe that he would want his complete works to be accessible in the internet, the information center of the world. He would insist on the biggest and best reproductions. It would have made him happy that the access is unrestricted and free.

document.write(''); Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam Art Institute of Chicago Strange Bedfellows A new exhibition tracks the turbulent nine weeks that artists Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin lived and painted together in the South of France "In general, Vincent and I do not see eye to eye, especially as regards painting," Paul Gauguin wrote to a friend in 1888. "He is a romantic and I am rather inclined to a primitive state." The tense friendship and unspoken rivalry between these two great avant-garde artists, and the creative sparks that flew between them during the two months in 1888 they spent living and working together in van Gogh's little Yellow House in the Provençal town of Arles, produced works that helped set the stage for much of what we know today as modern art. The mutual influence and interaction between these two opinionated artists are the focus of a stunning and comprehensive new exhibition organized jointly by the Art Institute of Chicago and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. "Van Gogh and Gauguin: The Studio of the South" (which is on view at the Art Institute through January 13, 2002, before traveling to the Van Gogh Museum in February) features many of the key pictures upon which these two artists' reputations rest, including van Gogh's The Bedroom and several versions of his Sunflowers , along with Gauguin's Human Miseries and Vision of the Sermon . The curators of the show have pieced together an almost day-to-day picture of the pair's collaboration, documenting their subjects, their styles, and the paintings they worked on side by side. "It's exciting," says Louis van Tilborgh, curator of paintings and sculpture at the Van Gogh Museum, "because this gives us a chance to see these two treating the same subjects at virtually the same time."
