Il padre, pastore protestante viene da una famiglia borghese che annovera pastori, uomini di mare, mercanti d'arte. La scuola e le prime esperienze lavorative Tra il 1864 e il 1868 frequenta prima un collegio a Zevenbergen, poi la Scuola Tecnica Statale Superiore di Tilburg. Nel marzo 1868, forse per difficoltà economiche familiari, lascia gli studi. L'anno seguente, a luglio va all' Aja dove è stato assunto come commesso nella succursale olandese della casa d'arte francese Goupil e C.ie. Questo primo lavoro è merito dello zio paterno Vincent, mercante di quadri che dal 1861 si è associato con Adolphe Goupil e Léon Boussod. Nel 1872 inizia la lunga e regolare corrispondenza con il fratello Theodorus, di quattro anni più giovane, documento letterario ed umano di impressionante autenticità, fonte essenziale di notizie sulle opere, le idee, gli scopi di van Gogh. La scelta religiosa Van Gogh pittore Nell'ottobre del 1880, risoluto a diventare pittore, si stabilisce a Bruxelles. Frequenta artisti come Willem Roelofs e Anton van Rappard con il quale avvia un profondo legame di amicizia intrattenendo una corrispondenza per i cinque anni seguenti. Nel 1881, in primavera, è di nuovo dai genitori ad Etten, disegna moltissimo, soprattutto figure di contadini e di lavoratori.

Vincent Van Gogh Biography: Vincent Van Gogh was born in Holland in 1853. Vincent Van Gogh committed suicide at the age of 37 years old. He was one of the most tragic artists who ever lived. Interesting Facts: Van Gogh's first painting was of poor people. In the beginning his paintings were dark and sad. He saw some Japanese paintings and he thought it was nice so he started painting colorful paintings. Van Gogh and his friend Gaugin lived together but argued a lot and one day Van Gogh was so angry he cut off his own ear. Van Gogh had a very unhappy life. He didn't decide to become a painter until he was grown up. Famous Works: Some of his famous paintings were "The Starry Night," "Cypresses," "Olive Trees," "Sunflowers," and "Bedroom at Arles." In "The Starry Night" he made the stars seem like they're shining. In "Cypresses" the trees look like flames and it feels like the whole picture is moving. In "Olive Trees," he made the sun look really hot. You feel like you should put on sunglasses to look at it. In " Sunflowers ," he used very thick paint to do this picture.

He couldn't afford a model and painted often himself Gogh, Vincent Willem van Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, whose work represents the archetype of Expressionism, or emotional spontaneity in painting. In 1886 van Gogh went to Paris to live with his brother Théo van Gogh, an art dealer, and became familiar with the new art movements developing at the time. Influenced by the work of the Impressionists and by the work of such Japanese printmakers as Hiroshige and Hokusai, van Gogh began to experiment with current techniques. Subsequently, he adopted the brilliant hues found in the paintings of Camille Pissarro and Georges Seurat. In 1888 van Gogh left Paris for southern France, where, under the burning sun of Province, he painted scenes of the fields, cypress trees, peasants, and rustic life characteristic of the region. For a time he was in a hospital at Arles. He then spent a year in the nearby asylum of Saint-Rémy, working between repeated spells of madness. He shot himself on July 27, 1890, and died two days later. The Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh, containing over 1,000 paintings, sketches, and letters, was opened in Amsterdam in 1973. Rappard, juni 1884, komen de zwerftochten van Vincent samen met Anthon aan het licht. Nadat Vincent, in mei 1884, van zijn vriend afscheid had genomen in het cafeetje bij het station Nuenen / Tongelre, was hij gestart met een schilderij van een watermolen met twee rode daken, 'anders als de twee watermolens die ze samen bezocht hadden' , zo schreef hij. Die twee watermolens zijn bijna zeker de Opwettense en de Hooidonkse-watermolen. De molens leken erg op elkaar maar met de rode daken was toch iets bijzonders. Dat moet de Collse molen zijn geweest JH 488 , zie kaartje 3. De watermolen van Opwetten JH 527 ligt op de weg naar Eindhoven aan de linkerkant, met het grootse schoepenrad van Nederland, wist Vincent dat? Aan het zandweggetje ligt op 500 m. van de molen in oostelijke richting het fraaie gehuchtje "Wettenseind" verscholen in het groen. Dit moet van Gogh gezien hebben, misschien JH 492 De andere watermolen, de Hooidonkse, is voor zover bekend niet getekend of geschilderd, hij had nog zo veel andere dingen ingedachte die veel dichter bij het boerenleven stonden. Zeker is dat niet, want van de St.Antoniuskapel dicht bij de Opwettense watermolen, (op kaartje 3 vermeld als "kapel", zonder nummer), is ook geen enkele prent opgedoken. Die kapel was toen al in verval en verbonden aan een legende die betrekking heeft op de naam Wolvendijk, de weg tussen Tongelre en Opwetten )7. Uit overleveringen van "zijn vriend uit Eindhoven" (Anton Kerssemakers) blijkt dat Vincent deze kapel vele malen geschilderd zou hebben, omdat hij deze zo mooi vond. Als dit juist is, zit er misschien ergens veel geld op een zolder of achter het behang. Was het deze kapel wel? Hier kom ik nog op terug.

Gogh, Vincent van Dr Paul Gachet Gachet, Dr Paul (1828-1909) Perhaps one of the most fascinating figures in the history of Impressionism , he was a doctor who specialized in homeopathy, a psychiatrist, an engraver, a Darwinian, a Socialist and a consistently helpful and generous patron and friend to all those artists with whom he came into contact. As a young student in Paris he had frequented the Brasserie des Martyrs, and after concluding his medical studies at Montpellier he became a frequenter of the seminal Café Guerbois. He bought a house at Auvers-sur-Oise and, in his studio there, became an enthusiastic engraver, partly as a consequence of his earlier contacts with Daumier , Charles Méryon and Rodolphe Bresdin, artists whose styles were reflected in his own. He signed his works `Paul van Ryssel', deriving the surname from his native village near Lille. It was in this studio that several of the Impressionists took up etching: Cézanne produced there an etching of Guillaumin , as well as painting a number of flower pieces arranged in Delft vases for him by the doctor's wife. On the recommendation of Pissarro , Gachet took Vincent van Gogh into his house in 1890, and it was in Auvers that he committed suicide. Gachet's great collection of paintings by all the major figures of the movement was given to the state by his son and is now in the Musée d'Orsay.
