Antoine Blanchard was born in France in a small village near the banks of the Loire. He displayed an artistic flair early in life – in an effort to promote this talent his parents sent him to Blois for drawing lessons. He continued his training in Rennes at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts. By 1932 he left Rennes and traveled to Paris to study. He enrolled at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and after a few years he entered the competition for the Prix de Rome. It was in Paris that he developed a love for the city and it’s street life. His father had a successful business and upon his death, Antoine was compelled to return to his hometown and run the family business – giving him little time to paint. It wasn’t till after World War II that he retired from the business and returned to his first love – painting. He moved his family to Paris and began to paint the “City of Lights”. Like his contemporary, Edouard Cortes, he devoted his artistic career to the depiction of Paris through all its daily and seasonal changes. Whether it was l’Arc de Triomphe, la Madeleine, Café de la Paix, Notre Dame or the dozens of other historical monuments and buildings of Paris, his focus was on the daily life of Paris at the turn of the century. His work became highly sought after and collectors from around the world vied to acquired his new works. Today his is considered one of the leading exponents of the School of Paris painters

Antoine Blanchard Antoine Blanchard, like his predecessors, Edouard Cortes and Galien Laloue, has captured the essence of Parisian life with such perfection, accuracy and subtle intimacy that we cannot help but become an accomplice as well as an obliging and fortunate victim to its lure. With a technique delicate in brushwork, generous in color and alive with a movement that is newer in style and quite distinctive from those he followed, Blanchard paints a Paris that never sleeps, a city bustling with activity, from morning to evening, from season to season. We are invited to stroll amidst the lights and shadows of the exquisite architecture and experience Paris as it once was. The eldest child of a furniture maker and his wife, Antoine was born on November 15, 1910, in a small on the banks of the Loire, near Blois. As we watched his father shape and carve pieces of wood into masterpieces of furniture, young Antoine's creativity was inspired already at an early age, with an inclination first for drawing and sculpting, and then for painting. His parents encouraged him to enter the arts and moved the family to Rennes, in Brittany, so that he could attend the renowned Ecole des Beaux Arts there. It was not until young Blanchard moved to Paris in 1932, to continue his fine arts studies, that he discovered his passion and made his impact on the contemporary art world. Blanchard's career as an artist spans five decades. He exhibited regularly in the salons and galleries of Paris and received numerous awards. One of the most coveted, the premier prize, Grand Prix du Public, was awarded to him for his painting depicting Cafe de la Paix and the Opera House. Enclosed is a copy of the page from the book describing the process and the prize. The painting for which a photo has been enclosed is similar in composition to the one which won him the prize.

French Eveline Blanchard is the youngest daughter of Antoine Blanchard, one of the most famous and collectable Parisian street scene painters of the 20th Century. She was born on September 26, 1946, in Paris at her father’s ‘atelier’. She was very close to her father and had a great admiration for him and his work which encouraged her to begin painting at an early age. Eveline spent several years in Provence which she loved for the beauty of it’s peaceful scenery. She continued her painting studies under the supervision and guidance of the famous painter L. Potronat, a friend of her father. It is then that Eveline became a true artist and showed her talent and mastery which has won her high regards. With great confidence in herself and the quality of her paintings, she rejoined her father in Paris to work together with him recapturing the atmosphere of turn of the century Paris thus reviving the spirit of “La Belle Époque”. They worked closely together for many years until her father Antoine Blanchard passed away in 1988. After her father’s death, Eveline committed herself and her painting to keeping alive the memory of the most romantic subject that her father painted the Parisian street scene. Only she could depict Paris at the turn of the century with the same charm, romance, and poise that her father Antoine Blanchard did. She continues in the tradition of great Parisian painters with quality and style, which has earned her the highest acclaim among contemporary artists and collectors through out the world. With Eveline the tradition that is “Blanchard” will live forever.
