Extractions: from the making-it-work dept. writes "I am currently taking a class on Oracle's Warehouse Builder and we are required to do the development on our own personal laptops which we will need to bring to class. Not wanting to spend the money for a windoze laptop, I want to find some way to do this on my G4 Powerbook (12" 867 mhz). The easiest solution is to use VirtualPC and install the tools under windows, however I'm curious to know how bad the performance will be. Also, I'm wondering if anyone has any idea if the performance would be any better running a flavor of Linux under VPC and using the Linux versions of Oracle's tools. Another idea that crossed my mind (although I don't know if it's even possible or feasible) are to run everything in Linux under VPC but changing the X display to X11 under Panther, which MIGHT help the performance. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?" I thought I remembered Oracle making a big deal about supporting Mac OS X quite some time ago. Sounds like they're long on promises but short on software.
