Apple II emulation, once the stuff of dreams, is finally becoming reality. Be aware that every emulator now available for all Apple II machines will somehow require the ROM coding from a real Apple II machine. Many of the emulators will give you instructions on how to easily obtain the ROM for you to properly run your emulator. There are pirate copies of bootleg ROM code that have been made available at different places on the web. Understand that Apple II or IIgs ROM code or ROM images available online (either on the web or by ftp) are illegal copies of this software. A2-Web does not endorse, suggest, or recommend that anyone obtain pirated software, and strongly discourages anyone from attempting to secure Apple II ROM code by this method. Caveat Lector. Extractions: com GP32 (GamePark) Console Buy GP32 Backlit Console Here! (Worldwide) GP32 Specifications Here The GP32 looks very similar to the GBA when its alot more advanced than the GBA (it can aparently emulate the GBA). The GP32 is more of a portable computer disguised as a console! So how does it all work? Well the GP32 connects to your PC's (or Apple Mac's) USB port and from there you can write to its SMC. For example if I want to play Heretic I copy over heretic.fxe (GP32 .exe file) and the heretic wad file, then on the GP32 I can see the heretic icon appear, and that's it, its now on the GP32 and can be played. The console is open source and fully supports people making their own programs for it, there is a GCC based devkit complete with graphics and sound libs. The built in OS can play MP3 as standard, it can also play DIVX/avi/mpg files too if you install the player (available at extra cost for download), making the GP32 a fantastic portable media player. When you buy a GP32 you have to register it to download the Free Loader Software and it's given its own unique ID number so you can password protect and also encrypt its programs so they will only work on your GP32. This was planned to stop copying of commercial GP32 games but it was quickly broken by hackers. Gamepark in Asia have said that soon you will be able to browse the web on the GP32 via a mobile phone connection and also buy various other adaptors and gadgets, It's not been confirmed that anyone has managed to get the net function working in Europe, but its something to keep an eye on.

Extractions: EMU - WinCE/PPC HP48/49 KML 1.2 details This script operates EMU on a WinCE machine with a horizontal format. This gives a faithful representation of the HP48/49G/49G+ look and feel. Importantly the HP48/49 LCD is now of size 2 and laid horizontally which makes it almost identical in size to a real HP48/49. The 49G+ script uses the 49G ROM but has the same color scheme as a 49G+. This modification is based on a KML script by Calculon which in turn was based on Leo Bueno Castillo's original script. Many thanks to those authors for their work. By Murray Rogers and others.

Extractions: DOWNLOADING A ROM IMAGE An emulator is useless without a ROM (Read Only Memory) image, which contains the software you use to operate the calculator. It's illegal to distribute these ROM image files; you must copy the ROM from your calculator using a link cable. See our Linking section for link cable and link software information. Actually downloading a ROM image is tricky, but newer emulator software makes the process easier. Below are instructions for obtaining a ROM from each calculator. IMPORTANT: Do not ask us, or anyone else, for ROM images. It is illegal to distribute them. The only way to legally obtain a ROM image is to download it from your calculator using the procedures below. DOWNLOADING A TI-82 ROM IMAGE If you have a TI-Graph Link and DOS or Windows: Download and unzip romdump2.zip

Extractions: Last week, I had a discussion with Kathi Rauth, Senior Product Manager with Adobe regarding the PDF security concern that I posted on March 3rd. Among other things, I was assured that Adobe is aware of the problem, and is working on a fix. I have appended a summary of the conversation with Adobe to the original PDF file AConnectix has released an update to Virtual PC, version 5.02. This new version seems to disable the virtual switch if your Mac is not physically connected to a network device or a real network. So...it's back to plugging into an old network hub for me. Most of this seems to be problems in Mac OS X. It will be nice when all the bugs are worked out of X, as it really is a nice OS. In any case, version 5.02 add significant speed increases when running under OS X, as things appeared to be a bit sluggish compared to the OS 9 version. Much of this is due in part of Virtual PC 5.02's ability to grab more CPU time away from other applications. There is a bit of a speed hit on background appications, but if it means that the emulation runs faster, I'll live with it ;-). You can grab the free update on Connectix's site

Emulators emulators. Amiga Computer emulators. The best computer of it s day? I thinkso, sadly Commodore went bankrupt in 1993 and the Amiga really died then. http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/7336/robemu.htm
Extractions: An emulator, as far as this page is concerned, is a programme that you run on a computer in order to run programmes written for a different (and incompatible) computer. This is quite a difficult task as the emulator has to look at each instruction in the programme and perform the operation that would occur on the computer being emulated, so you will need a much faster computer to run a programme at the same speed as a 'native' computer. Emulation is slowed down further by having to convert graphics and sound from the original format to a form that can be displayed/heard. All the emulators listed here are top notch, and are well worth a look if you own a fast(ish) PC. If I haven't put a link in for a particular emulator, you can get to it via these sites, the links at Dave's Classics are at the left of the 'what's new' information on the first page. They are excellent sites and worth a visit: RetroGames Dave's Videogame Classics There are quite a few Spectrum emulators for the PC, you don't need a very powerful PC to run most of them (a 486 should do) and emulation is generally very accurate. ZX80 has been about for ages, but I don't think it's that great, it needs a specific memory configuration on your PC which you shouldn't need to worry about nowadays. I haven't tried any of the Windows ones, but X128 is a great DOS em' that also works under '95. The version of X128 I used was V0.8 SAOM which allows you to use 128K games with the enhanced 128K sound.
