    Extractions: We had another very busy day this week. V*Enna performed twice at this years edition of the Greenbelt 2001 Festival in Cheltenham, UK. V*Enna performed on Main Stage as well as in one of the side venues. This was a very special moment as this was the last show for our British dancers who are moving on to their own projects. 8/21/01 SOUL SURVIVOR 2001 Another first for V*Enna was to take part of this years Soul Survivor Conference held at Shepton Mallet in Somerset. V*Enna performed three times, once at the band stand and had guest appearances at Dreggs and also at the "Pulse" venue hosted by "the TRIBE". We had the chance to hang out with our great friends from "Riverdeep" as they opened the band stand performance. 8/18/01 V*ENNA DEBUTS AT FLEVO TOTAAL 2001 This weekend V*Enna will take part in Flevo Totaal for the first time in the Dutch town of Flevo. This is one of the major European festivals and this will be the first time for V*Enna at this event. However, this is not the first time V*Enna is in Holland, we performed here seven times earlier this year in May, (see our archive section). Sharnessa and Lucy had a great time catching up with loads of friends at the festival, to mention a few; Earthsuit, Luna Halo and ShineMK.

Wonderful music, performed with great charm. Read more The plots of some of August Enna’s (1859-1939) operas are based on fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen. He called these not-so-demanding operas “musical fairy tales”. Such operas include Den Lille Pige med Svovlstikkerne (The Little Match Girl, Copenhagen 1897), Prinsessen på Ærten (The Princess and the pea, Århus 1900) and the somewhat longer Nattergalen (“The nightingale”, Copenhagen 1912). The Little Match Girl is the most succesful. It was first produced at the Casino Theatre in Copenhagen on 13 November 1897. Along with the little ballet pantomime Hyrdinden og Skorstensfejeren (The Shepherdess and the Chimney-Sweep) The Little Match Girl is the only work by August Enna to be performed with any frequency. The Shepherdess and the Chimney-Sweep is the first of Enna’s five ballets. It is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale, which Enna edited together with the author P.A.Rosenberg. The music was composed at the beginning of 1900, and it was around the turn of the century that other works based on Andersen’s fairy tales emerged: “The author himself lent these fairy tales the most wonderful music”, Enna said in an interview, “Just take The Shepherdess and the Chimney-Sweep; I can hear all the intruments of the orchestra in this story.” It was first staged in March 1900 in a private performance in the Casino Theatre in Copenhagen. The highly succesful premiere took place a year later at the Royal Theatre.
