Extractions: Love In The Times of Strife There is a series of periodical films waiting for release over the next one year. And Gadar , like Lagaan is the first of that series. Set in 1947, it is a story of two lovers from different religion separated by India's partition. A take off from Shaeed-e-Mohabbat , the Gurudas Mann film that enjoyed such a huge run at the box office, Gadar is spunky, with some very good performances and a great recreation of the pre-partition India. Rarely has any film recreated the partition era so faithfully, and with so much attention to even the minutest details. Partition Tales : The story begins in united India, and revolves around a truck driver Tara Singh's (Sunny Deol) love for a genteel, rich Muslim girl Sakeena (Ameesha Patel). Tara Singh fetches supplies to the school where she studies. A friendship develops between the two. And then comes Partition. Sakeena's family, headed by Ashraf Ali (Amrish Puri), decides to go to Lahore in Pakistan rather than stay back in India.
