Extractions: If I was out skating around the city and I get harrased for skateboarding with a security guard. All of the sudden Mr.T runs up to the security guard and says, "Leave the kid alone sucka he's just having a little fun. You gotta be a fool to say that a kid is doing damage when he is skateboarding." So from then on I don't get in trouble for skating because word got out that Mr.T is on MY side. — Andrew Olathe It was my first night on my own closing the local CD store. Review: Mr. Wonderful Review by James Berardinelli (positive), rating. http://movie-reviews.colossus.net/movies/m/mr_wonderful.html
Extractions: U.S. Distributor: Warner Brothers It's very difficult to do a romantic comedy right. Because the outcome is never in doubt, the plot becomes little more than a conveyance a means to an end. As a result, no matter how strong the storyline is, there are limits to its effectiveness. Successful romantic comedies work because of solid performances by the actors, well-rounded, developing characters, and that certain je ne sais quoi (often referred to as "chemistry") which allows the audience to believe, however momentarily, that these two people are actually in love. Happily for those who enjoy this sort of movies, Mr. Wonderful
Mr. T Experience Discography - Slipcue.Com Indiepop Pages mr. T Experience discography record reviews and recommendations by DJ Joe Sixpack. mr. T Experience Making Things With Light (Lookout, 1990). http://www.slipcue.com/music/pop/artists/mtx/mtx.html
Extractions: Dr. Frank, the idiosyncratic songwriting genius for the Mr. T Experience , is the Cole Porter of Punk* an unusually skillful tunesmith, and one of the best lyricists working in the rock idiom. The band itself started in the mid-80s, and specialized in upbeat, joyously moronic punk rock novelty songs which in and of itself was not unusual for the time. Unfortunately, the band was a victim of its own success: after the initial amusement passed, many listeners moved on, assuming they knew what the band was about, sadly unaware of the artistic growth to come in later years. The band has had a huge if unrecognized impact on American pop music, since they were probably the main influence on fellow East Bay pop-punkers (and ex-Lookout! labelmates), Green Day. Numerous other lesser bands were to follow Blink 182, etc., etc... Somehow, though, Mr. T missed the big brass ring, and for the last few years, the band has hovered underneath the halo of actual stardom, humbly (but not quietly!) churning out album after album of the best pop-punk America has to offer. Plus there are the live shows, which are a source of unremitting pleasure... I usually max out on any musician after seeing them two or three times, but each time I've seen MTX, the band has always sounded fresh, fun, and de-lovely. So, here we have it. This page is an effort to convince the world that Dr. Frank is not merely a brilliant, gifted genius, but also an accomplished songsmith in the old Tin Pan Alley and Brill Building traditions. The guy's got a great ear for wordplay, a bunch of brainy preoccupations, and a rather well-polished act of self-deprecation. Slipcue E-Zine Mr. T Experience Vs. Magnetic Fields A pretentious comparison between the songwriting of Dr. Frank (mr. T Experience) and Stephin Merritt (Magnetic Fields). The mr. T EXPERIENCE vs. MAGNETIC FIELDS. http://www.slipcue.com/music/pop/artists/mtx/mtx_vs_magfields.html
Extractions: MAGNETIC FIELDS Who are two of the greatest songcrafters in indie rock today? Well, I thought you'd never ask... A few years ago, in a particularly idle conversation with Dr. Frank , the songwriter for the Mr. T Experience , he mentioned how difficult it was to write complex lyrics in a rocknroll format. Especially in the punk scene, where there's a premium placed on indie cred and "authenticity", so much so that many fans often simply sneer at a song that is too well crafted. The punker indie cred crowd equates rawness with authenticity, and frowns on bands that they think are too far removed from their roots. An odd situation to be in, I thought, for an artist who'd been working as a songwriter for over a decade... that ethic seems especially restrictive for a lyricist as skilled and inventive as Dr. Frank, who has been wisely dubbed (by me) the Cole Porter of Punk. MTX is a Bay Area pop-punk band which was an early role model for Green Day, Blink 182, and others. While his acolytes burst through to momentary superstardom, Frank's own following has always been relatively small, a limitation he's skillfully built into the "loser" mystique of the band. Yet for a group that grew out of a mid-80s hybridization of SoCal snotpunk novelty songs and anthemic, Ramones-derived singalongs, Mr. T boasts a sweeping artistic development. Like a lot of other folks, I drifted away from the band for a few of years in the early '90s... When curiousity got the better of me and I went to see them again in '91, the first thing that struck me was the growing sophistication of Frank's skill as a guitarist. The songs were still fast and bouncy head-bobbers, but he had woven in some complicated harmonics into his playing, often playfully disguising them underneath heavy metal power chords. Frank's songwriting was following apace, and by the time we were chatting about the art of songwriting, it was clear that he was indeed taking the job very, very seriously.

The Peter Lorre Films Of Mr. Moto Listing of the Moto films, plus an abridged preface to a book on the series by Howard Berlin. http://user.dtcc.edu/~berlin/mr_moto.htm
Extractions: Mr. Moto was a mild-mannered, Japanese detective that was the basis for a series of eight films (1937-39) by Twentieth Century-Fox from the stories of novelist John P. Marquand. Peter Lorre portrays Kentaro Moto (I.A. Moto in Marquand's novels), who was very much unlike Charlie Chan in that he was the master of disguises and physically more active, often using ju-jistsu. It is seldom clear for whom Moto really works. Perhaps it is the International Police. In the first two films, he refers to himself an importer. When asked if he is a detective in the film Think Fast, Mr. Moto , he replies that it done only as a hobby. On other occasions, Moto claims to be a confidential investigator for the International Association of Importers, a member of the International Police, a college lecturer in criminology, and a managing director of the Dai Nippon Trading Company, which probably serves as a front for his activities with the International Police. However, in The Return of Mr. Moto , it is clear that Moto works for Interpol. In the novels, he is a Japanese agent in the service of the Emperor.

Now, with Mr. Holland's Opus , another Capra-esque motion picture has reached today's theaters. Similar in theme and content to Dead Poets' Society and It's a Wonderful Life , this movie persuades its audience that no life spent in a worthy pursuit is ever wasted. Unlike The American President , however, it doesn't stoop to heavy-handed proselytizing. And, while no one will accuse Mr. Holland's Opus
