Extractions: Until recently Lilac house was the property of the Carr family, who had a cloggers' business and in 1861 a farm of 63 acres. The dwelling and workshop are clay built with stone and brick outbuildings. There is also a threshing barn of clay construction with two pairs of full crucks. The front of the present-day dwelling house is rendered and boasts brick and axial chimneys. It has a wide cart entrance between Lilac House and West Winds with a date stone bearing the inscription Francis Hall, Anne Hall, 1721. The house itself has an original plank and batten door with three or four hundred wooden studs, a lock, and a bolt three feet long. Other downstairs rooms include the quiet study and the well-equipped kitchen where your hostess, a fully trained chef will prepare and cook organic meals, catering for both vegetarians and carnivores. The master bedroom features a beautiful brass double bed with fresh linen and a luxurious hand crafted throw, while the second bedroom is equipped with twin beds. A good night's sleep is pretty much guaranteed in the quiet village of Kirkbride, 10 miles from the city of Carlisle. Located 150 yards from the local public house, and just down the road from the village church there's always something going on... you are made to feel so welcome in this small community you may not want to go home!
