Extractions: In February of '99, I saw him in Roanoke, Va at the Convention Center. The show consisted of him and his piano. He wore a black tux with the lapels and pockets trimmed in rhinestone as well as having a rhinestone design on the back. This was a truly amazing experience for me. He performed most of his well known ballads and stated this is what they sounded like while they were being wrote. He, again, played to the crowd. He said that he was scared to start this tour, not knowing how people would re-act. He performed songs, he said he had not performed in twenty to thirty years. Believe me when I say they have not lost any of the emotion or feeling over the years. He gave a great performance.

"Aida" erzählt die tragische Dreiecksgeschichte von der nubischen Prinzessin Aida, die versklavt wurde, Amneris, einer ägyptischen Prinzessin und dem Soldaten Radames, den beide Frauen lieben. Eine schöne Geschichte, die jede Menge Herzschmerz bereit hält und dementsprechend drücken die von Elton John verpflichteten Gaststars auf die Tränendrüse. Dabei tun sie des Guten denn doch zuviel und so hört sich die Disney-Version von "Aida" eigentlich nicht wie ein Musical an, sondern eher wie eine billige Compilation belangloser Popsongs.

In every year since then, he's had a Top 40 hit the longest winning streak by any recording artist. His latest single success comes from the new concept album "Aida," for which Sir Elton recruited an army of allies fit for any pharaoh. "The main ingredient of any musical should be the music, and too often it's not it's the set or it's the cast or it's some gimmick," John says. "And I was determined that in this, being my first stage show in collaboration with Tim Rice, all the songs would be strong." After writing that strong set of songs (the musical was critically praised after its October debut in Atlanta), he set about producing the official recording for his "Aida," and started by making sure the singers were as strong as the music.
