Extractions: Carrie Dobro made her first appearance as Dureena Nafeel alongside Peter Woodward (Galen) in the A Call to Arms telemovie. The telemovie was set up to the short-lived Crusade , which lasted only 13 episodes on the US's TNT channel. To a fan, Crusade is a major part of the universe. To a cast member such as Carrie, it could understandably be a small, relatively inconsequential part of a varied career, and she'd be forgiven for not placing much importance on the role. However, Carrie is adamant that this is not the case. I would say its still the best character Ive ever played, she enthuses, and it was the best working environment Ive ever had. Cast, crew, creatorsbeginning to endit was the best Ive ever had. Her previous roles on didnt mean that Carrie was casted for Crusade without the usual hard work of auditioning. The casting director called me in, and I went through the process just like everybody else, she explains. I did my take on it, [but] you never know what somebody is looking foryou cant be in somebodys mind. As many actors there are in the world, thats how many different approaches there are to a part. Xyzanda: How did your childhood experiences influence you to make this decision towards acting? Dobro: I would have to say it wasn't childhood experiences. I was a painter and a sculptor all through high school. I wound up with acting. What other roles have you played? Dobro: I've done about 50 theatrical productions. I'm in Kansas City doing a two-person play called Marriage is Murder, with my newly-married husband. I've played prostitutes, cops, executives. I've played farce, Shakespeare, pretty much everything. I've done Silk Stalkings, The Young and the Restless, Marry Me or Die. I just did a Beverly Hills 90210. I did a series for Hypernaughts. I was in Assault playing late nights on some channel. Extractions: Q Hypernauts was your first time acting in a science fiction, wasn't it? Even though the scripting and the story plot for the series were nicely done, did it concern you that you would be playing an alien holy person giving guidance to three teens? (Not your usual concept outside of science fiction) A Actually, Hypernauts wasn't the first taste of sci-fi I'd had in Television. I had done a small role as a human doctor on an episode of Babylon 5 before working on Hypernauts. I'd never been an alien before, however, and the whole idea fascinated me. The fact that Kulai was a new alien species meant I could do anything I wanted in creating the race. As far as being holy, well, how often do you get to play the religious figure for an entire people. It was a blast!! Q How were you chosen to play Kulai? A A whole series of auditions, just like everyone else. Audition for the casting people, then a call back to producers, then a callback to the network. Q Were you interested in science fiction prior to acting in a science fiction series?

Q I don't know the whole story. A I thought it was more of a teen show than a kid show. Unfortunately while we were filming Disney bought ABC and we were told that all Saturday morning programs was now going to be Disney. That was kind of a shuffle in that direction. It wasn't artistic differences or that they didn't like the show but "We're putting on our shows." Q I understand that the Disney Channel has aired some of the episodes combined.
