Extractions: A: The two were introduced by ex-Animals bassist Chas Chandler, the man who put together the Jimi Hendrix Experience. They met at an early Cream concert at the Polytechnic of Central London, on October 1, 1966. Jimi had been wary of going to England, but Chandler's promise to introduce him to EC pushed him over the edge. When the two first met, Hendrix played Killing Floor for EC. A: Marc Roberty holds that Hendrix was a "major influence" on Clapton, and that his "driven, fuzz-tone blues opened up a whole new world of possibilities for the electric guitar." The most visible influence Jimi had on Eric was actually fashion. During his stint with Cream , Clapton started wearing psychedelic clothing, and even went so far as to perm his hair like Hendrix. In addition, Jack Bruce wrote the main riff to Sunshine Of Your Love after seeing Jimi for the first time at the first proper Experience gig at the Saville Theatre in London. A portion of the offending lyrics include: I'm gonna get me a shotgun, baby, Keep it stashed behind the bedroom door. I may have to blow your brains out, baby, Then you won't bother me no more. Opponents of the song have said, "It's disturbing to all of us Clapton fans. In this day and age, with domestic violence as prevalent as it is, the idea of him writing a song like that is horrible." Supporters of the song have claimed that the track represents the tradition of blues music.
