Il quarantenne Stephen Chow è uno dei più noti protagonisti di commedie d'azione di Hong-Kong, apparso fin qui in una cinquantina di pellicole e giunto con questa prova alla sua quinta regia. A detta dei fini conoscitori del genere, questo non è il suo miglior film, ma è probabilmente quello con le maggiori potenzialità commerciali nel nostro paese. Non che sia un capolavoro, in effetti, ma è divertente ed esaltante, con una sceneggiatura un po' banale nelle parti "normali" ma dei personaggi simpatici e costruiti benissimo. Le sequenze di gioco, ricche di effetti speciali non sempre riuscitissimi, mettono in scena qualche momento davvero memorabile, che è quello che poi conta, in questo tipo di film.

To overcome this poison, she must have sex. Of course, Stephen Chow as Wilson Bond is conveniently around. Due to the martial arts that she practise, if she has sex, then 80% of her powers will transfer to her partner. Stephen then became a martial arts fighter without having a single practice in his life. Royal Tramp 2 is a comedy. Very light-hearted. Brigitte Lin's straight-faced acting complements Stephen Chow's comic antics. Stephen Chow is delightfully funny as he changes from irresponsible official and playboy to a patriotic and caring family man. Brigitte changes from a cold-hearted sect leader to a warm-hearted feminine wife of Stephen Chow. The show pokes fun at gender roles. Look out for the skit when Stephen Chow does a "Asia the Invincible" number by dressing like Asia The Invincible and shooting with needles and thread. The DVD includes a trailer.

Although he was born in Hong Kong he is a native of Shanghai. After graduating from High school in 1982, he applied for a placement at the tv company TVB but was denied. It wasn't until a friends recommendation that he was accepted for TVB's acting school, which the company held for it's new actors. After a year, he signed a contract and and began his screen career on the children's television programme "430 Space Shuttle", which he hosted for four years alongside Tony Leung Chui-Wai. The show became very popular and gave Chow his first taste of success. In 1987 he starred in his first drama series for the company, The Price Of Growing Up, in which he was a supporting actor to another of the companies star, Alex Man. Also In 1987, he made his movie debut in Final Justice, which was directed and starred Danny Lee in the lead role. For his role in the movie, Stephen won the Golden Horse award for Best Supporting actor at the 25th Taiwan film awards, and was nominated for Best Supporting actor and Best New Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards. In the years that followed, he alternated between tv and a string of of drama movies, including He who chases after the wind, Just Heroes, Unmatchable match, Thunder cops 2, and Dragon Fight.

He's so subdued that for a moment I wonder what's happened to the manic Chow of films like Fight Back to School and All for the Winner Shaolin Soccer , was Hong Kong's highest-grossing Chinese movie of all time, taking in nearly $46 million Asia-wide, and is also set to be released in the U.S. this August by Miramax. Chow's star turns have included five of the other biggest box-office hits in Hong Kong history. "I wanted to capture the mass audience from the start," he says. Mission accomplished. In films, Chow usually plays the fool but almost always gets the girl. Moviegoers swallow the conceit and cheer, because "Little Stevie," as he is known to fans, is one of them. "Acting is my job, and directing and producing," Chow says. "But it's only a job. Besides that I'm just like anyone else." Denied access through the show-biz front door, Stephen Chow probed the side entrances. An actress friend secured him a place in a less serious nighttime acting class ("a lot of people my size were studying there" unlike in the full-time course, Chow says). That led to a job co-hosting a popular children's TV show with future art-film icon Tony Leung Chiu-wai. It was a comedown for Chow, who had once told his mother he wanted to grow up to be either a kung fu master or a thespian. "I was someone who kept talking about method acting and Al Pacino or Robert De Niro," Chow says. "One of my friends said, 'Yeah, your point is very good and you know a lot, but unfortunately you're a children's show host.' And that was true, and it hurt."
