Stratford Festival Reviews He should have seen juan chioran. Only juan chioran as Dracula and Amy Walshas Lucy Westenra have anything interesting to sing, and not much of it. http://www.stage-door.org/reviews/strat99.htm
Extractions: (Your comments and reviews are also welcome. Please?) The Alchemist guest review by Jonathan Harrison It should have kept me laughing and watching to see who was coming on stage next. Instead I found myself questioning costume choices, and checking the Indiglo. I refer to Stratford's production of The Alchemist which opened Wednesday at the Festival Theatre. The play, written in 1610 by Shakespeare's contemporary, Ben Johnson, is a classic farce treating greed and gullibility with a wonderful sense of irreverence. Johnson opens with a prologue which sets the scene. The master of the house has gone to the country to escape the plague, and his servant, Face, is in charge. Face, a con artist, has brought in pals Subtle and Dol Common to help him dupe a variety of the populace. A client needs some profitable advice for his new shop, another wants the Philosopher's Stone so he can turn metal into gold. Another wants to be able to fall in love, and another, the gift of reason. To achieve these ends Subtle (Keith Dinicol) and Face (Benedict Campbell) work as a master servant team in which Face takes the money and Subtle performs the miracles, sometimes with the help of Dol (Diane D'Aquila).

The Grill apparently is frequently used as a set for various television and film productions in Toronto. Yes, we were sitting in THE Booth. :-) An exciting view in the parking garage under the airport Mariott. We got moved there (the hotel, not the parking garage!) from our original hotel downtown when our reservation got lost. We were lucky to find a place to stay at all, since it was the same weekend as Toronto Pridefest, which is apparently the largest Gay Pride celebration in North America!

Eye - House Of Mirth - 06.21.01 Featuring Martha Burns, juan chioran, Nancy Palk. Stratford vet juan chioran, whotakes on the coveted role in this production, is in very good company. http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_06.21.01/arts/presentlaughter.html
Extractions: eye - House of mirth Present Laughter director Joseph Ziegler explores how celebrity makes Cowards of us all He politely deflects compliments about his tour-de-force performance in last summer's School for Wives (for which he's up for a Dora) and is visibly uncomfortable with all the attention from passersby at an outdoor photo shoot (though he remains both professional and co-operative). Ziegler emerges from the day's rehearsals of Coward's Present Laughter a production of this "very light comedy," in Coward's words, launches the 2001 Soulpepper season under his direction dressed in sandals, khakis and an off-red T-shirt. He looks more like a character out of Relic Hunter a series in which he has guest-starred than like your classic Coward bon vivant. But get him talking about Coward or Shakespeare (Coward's title is borrowed from a line in Twelfth Night ) and the actor/director in Ziegler comes out in full force. In what can only be described as a quietly authoritative tone, he sets the scene for

Eye - Women Carry Sharp Coward - 07.05.01 Women carry sharp Coward. PRESENT LAUGHTER ****. Featuring Martha Burns, JuanChioran, Patricia Fagan, Nancy Palk, Brenda Robins. Written by Noël Coward. http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_07.05.01/arts/onstage.html
Extractions: ON STAGE Women carry sharp Coward Blithe Spirit on the grounds the script was, ahem, "derivative and superficial." No one but an overzealous fan would ever accuse Coward of depth. But with so many good playwrights having tried, unsuccessfully, to match his light-as-air stagecraft over the years, it takes a gifted sourpuss not to recognize his genius. Soulpepper who turned the same trick in their second season with a similar comedy-about-theatre, The Play's the Thing may not have plumbed any hidden depth in the material in their excellent production of Coward's 1939 classic, Present Laughter , but they have found all kinds of riches in the performances. Coward wrote the play partly to provide himself with a killer part that of vain, beleaguered matinee idol Gary Essendine (who a superb Juan Chioran somehow finds a way to underplay here) and partly as a one-fingered salute to critics who dismissed his work as commercial nonsense. The plot, which follows the actor through the last few days before a dreaded repertory tour of Africa, is equal measures self-skewering satire and delightfully idiotic romantic intrigue. Gary is the unwilling head of a professional family that also includes his all-suffering manager Morris (Neil Foster), his not-quite-ex-wife Liz (Martha Burns), thick-skinned secretary Monica (Nancy Palk) and his jet-set producer Henry (Michael Hanrahan).
