Extractions: An agent connected to the show said its producers were looking for a "name" country-and-western singer like LeAnn Rimes or Amy Grant as a possible replacement for a departing cast member, Irene Molloy . " About a month ago, I mentioned that they would do star casting . It seems to be the only way to keep CIVIL WAR a float. My recommendation would again be Jon Bon Jovi or Meatloaf . They are both interested in working on Broadway these days. Barring a miracle, CIVIL WAR's days on Broadway are numbered. Then again, I was wrong about PIMPERNEL too.
Extractions: A busload from Mathey and Rocky Colleges disembarked in front of the Ambassador Theatre at around 7:15 p.m., giving the students 45 minutes to relax before the show started. Some walked the few blocks to Times Square, where they spent the next 20 minutes in a trance-like state of raised eyes and open mouths.
Chic122398 And that show was hardly pussycat shy. For Bobbie s revival, belle calaway and Stephanie Pope play a pair of unremorseful Chicago murderers. http://www.cincypost.com/living/1998/chic122398.html
Extractions: Theater review by Jerry Stein, Post staff reporter It has been close to two years since the brassy revival of 'Chicago' began its national tour in Cincinnati - and it shows no intentions of cooling down. The new company, arriving Tuesday night for a week's run at the Aronoff Center, adroitly performs the high kicks, shimmies and pelvic thrusts demanded of them in Ann Rein- king's dances that are sometimes sharp, sometimes sinewy movements. They were inspired by Bob Fosse's original choreography for 'Chicago.' Director Walter Bobbie and choreographer Reinking have recaptured, maybe increased, the pulse of 1976 original Broadway production that starred the lively Gwen Verdon and fiery Chita Rivera. And that show was hardly pussy-cat shy. For Bobbie's revival, Belle Calaway and Stephanie Pope play a pair of unremorseful Chicago murderers. They lead a splendid chorus of leggy women and muscular men. For their sexy dances, the performers use chairs, ladders and bannisters to support their contortions. The choreography is a terrific salute to Fosse's demands on the body. Ms. Calaway and Ms. Pope also know how to belt out the Kander-Ebb brassy songs. And their cheeky characters both shock and amuse.
Extractions: Bianca the Latin proud! In between that first performance in 1996 and today, when Gretchen Mol is in the role, Broadway's Roxies have included Marilu Henner, Karen Ziemba, Sandy Duncan, Charlotte d'Amboise, Belle Calaway, Tracy Shayne, Nana Visitor, Petra Nielsen, Denise Van Outen, Bianca Marroquin, Amy Spanger and Melanie Griffith. (Renée Zellweger is the movie musical's Roxie; rumor had it Goldie Hawn and Joey Heatherton both coveted the role.) Some, like Ziemba, d'Amboise and Calaway, have had multiple runs as Roxie on Broadway; d'Amboise holds the record at a half dozen separate turns. There has never been an African-American Roxie Hart, but Marroquin has fulfilled that dream for the Latino community.
Mamie Duncan-Gibbs next three years until Stephanie Pope went to Toronto to play Velma with Chita Rivera, and Mamie joined the national tour for six weeks opposite belle calaway. http://chicago.allinfoabout.com/mamie.html

Intendant Kira Go figure! We saw the 8 PM performance of CHICAGO. Unfortunately, Nana was unable to go on (severe back spasms) so belle calaway appeared that night as Roxie. http://home.earthlink.net/~robvig/intendantsite/extra/visitation01essay.html
Extractions: Visitation 2001 - A New York Odyssey Originally published in Far Beyond The Stars , September 2001 newsletter, with additional commentary about a third trip to New York on October 6-7. It's been a long, long time since I did so much traveling Since Visitation 2000 I have gotten a job programming for an insurance company that included several business trips to Miami, and more recently, visits to New York, New York (the REAL thing, not that Las Vegas facsimile) in two consecutive weekends as part of the annual Nanites celebration of all things Nana Visitor that this year is known as Visitation 2001 . Wanna hear more? OK, here goes The real 50-foot Nana: billboard facing Super 8 Motel, North Bergen, NJ. (photograph by Robert Vigliano) The first trip started on Thursday the 23rd of August at my brother's in Greensboro, NC and then Chapel Hill the next day. Since the last Visitation, Mirrani and Shauna Kayleen had moved to Carrboro (just outside of Chapel Hill). Mirrani, Shauna, Donna Berghaus, Marcus Karsities, Carina Winkler (a friend of Marcus from Austria) and myself had dinner at a Swensen's in the UNC campus before returning to Mirrani's and going straight to bed, which for me was on the living room floor. We left about 4:30 AM (Shauna stayed home as she was performing in her play The Tempest that evening), and 11-1/2 hours later we arrived in North Bergen, NJ. Entering the Lincoln Tunnel to get into the City is sheer chaos!! Eight lanes worth of traffic squeezing into 4 available lanes of tunnel Welcome to New York City!

Talkin' Broadway Review: Mind Games: Marc Salem On Broadway d Amboise, Pia Douwes, Tom Wopat, PJ Benjamin, also starring Roz Ryan, D. Sabella, with Donna Marie Asbury, Gregory Butler, belle calaway, Roxane Carrasco http://www.talkinbroadway.com/world/
Extractions: Tickets: Telecharge From the moment he steps onstage, Marc Salem appears to be about the most unprepossessing performer imaginable. He looks like someone you may pass on the street, or perhaps see teaching a college class; he's bald, has a beard, and wears a simple black suit. His behavior also supports the illusion of normality: A dry sense of humor, a monotonous voice, a laid-back attitude. This man is a star? Oh yes. It's not long after Mind Games has begun that you realize his one-man show is every bit as much of an act as the one that goes on at the same theater (the Lyceum) the other six days of the week in I Am My Own Wife . Okay, Salem doesn't play three dozen different characters the way Jefferson Mays does, but he's ultimately no less convincing at making you believe he's someone else entirely. He just goes about it in a different, more subversive way.
Chicago - June 2000 belle calaway a longtime understudy to the stars who plays her first Broadway lead here is sensational as Roxie, giving the role some Verdonesque http://www.musicals101.com/chicago00.htm
Extractions: Review by John Kenrick Chicago . A return visit found this production at least as exciting than ever, and in some ways even better than when it opened four years ago. It is customary to say the original 1976 production never got the success it deserved because it had the bad luck to open in the wake of A Chorus Line , but that is only a partial truth. Bob Fosse's multiple layers of dark cynicism made the original hard to swallow despite stellar performances by Gwen Verdon, Chita Rivera and Jerry Orbach. When I saw that production as a mere teenager, I admired Fosse's genius but kept wondering how one could fully enjoy a show that never stopped sneering. The 1996 revival is clearly a homage to Fosse's choreographic style, but it allows the material to make its points in a more straightforward manner. It also does a better job of honoring the show's vaudeville structure, with each number doing its damnedest to stop the show. At a point when most productions look tired, this one kept a midweek audience cheering its heads off for song after song.
Chicago Right now Broadway has belle calaway who won the Helen Hayes Award here when she was headlining the tour as well as Roxane Carrasco in the two merry http://www.potomacstages.com/Chicago.htm
Extractions: Chicago first opened on Broadway in 1975. It was a major hit although it was eclipsed by the nearly simultaneous appearance of A Chorus Line which made Chicagos run of nearly a thousand performances seem negligible compared to Chorus Line's history-making run of over 6,000. In 1996 the Encores! series staged a concert version of the score which was such a hit that it was fleshed out for a full production which is still going strong and going strong is exactly the right way to describe the production in its sixth year. Storyline: A vaudeville of songs and skits, each of which adds to the narrative of a simple story about two women in prohibition-era Chicago who achieve celebrity from jail as they await trial on their separate murder charges. Their notoriety is ultimately eclipsed by even more spectacular crimes but they manage to break into show business when their sleazy lawyer gets them off by doing a little razzle-dazzle on the juries. The score by John Kander and Fred Ebb (who are also represented on Broadway right now with a great revival of Cabaret ) is one of the most exciting, varied and jazziest scores available on Broadway today. Enough of the style and feel of Bob Fosses original choreography was retained to make
