Extractions: Web Graphics Basics by Mark Bakalor Good web sites require a seamless integration of text and graphics. Here's the least you need to know about web graphics. Years ago, the Web was little more than black text on a gray background. The infrequent graphic took about three weeks to load, it cost three cents to buy a loaf of bread, and I had to sludge through seven feet of snow just to get to school. Times have changed, the snow has melted, and the Web has become a place where visitors expect slick, professional graphics. But if you don't know how to take advantage of the Web's potential, history will repeat itself: Your creation will take three weeks to download and a note will be sent home telling your parents that you're just "not living up to your full potential." The first step in understanding how to create and manage graphics for the Web is understanding the graphical image itself. Electronic images are made up of thousands of tiny colored dots called "pixels." The pixels are so small they can't be detected individually by the human eye, so they create the illusion of a continuous image. This is how all images you see on your computer (and TV) work. Surely you held a magnifying glass up to the TV screen when you were a child. If not, go and try it right now. Some screens have dots, some have lines, but the principle is the same.

Extractions: hostName = '.metagrrrl.com'; Hello. My name is Dinah Sanders. I'm a web geek. I like it that way. Main Talked with Mark Bakalor about the fact that he's AVAILABLE TO DO FABULOUS WEB GRAPHICS and what we've been up to lately. Some of you may know him as a juggler, though he's now an actor, a director and a Photoshop pixelmonkey extraordinaire. See his work at Fosse.com and check out his portfolio for more. He's so spiffy, he'll even sing a little song for you [Sadly, this song from "Die, Die, Diana" is no longer available on his site. Trust me; it was quite the performance.] ICQ is dandy. I don't begrudge him the right to spend his time as he sees fit, but I will miss his quiet voice and keen observations. Phil, can't you just change the name from the "Daily Phil" to the "Whenever It Suits Me Phil"? Permalink Comments (0) Listen to the voice of wisdom:

Mermaniac - A Show Tunes Weblog: Grammy Posted by mark bakalor on February 27, 2002 0638 PM. Wow, mark, thanks. They reall much older than me? Posted by mark bakalor on February 27, 2002 0916 PM. http://www.mermaniac.com/archives/001356.html
Extractions: Home About Archives Photos ... Main Wednesday February 27, 2002 grammy The Grammys are tonight. Some thoughts: Musical Show Album. I'm so glad to see the NY Philharmonic Sweeney Todd got nominated. Other Sondheim concert casts have won in the past, but this is the year of The Producers . Mel Brooks should win another Grammy. He's already won two Tonys and an Oscar for The Producers , so why not? Since he won the Emmy for his guest stints on Mad About You , I guess he's now in the same Tony/Emmy/Oscar/Grammy league as folks like Rita Moreno and Helen Hayes. Traditional Pop Album. Let's see: Betty Buckley, Rosemary Clooney, Harry Connick Jr., Michael Feinstein and Keeley Smith. Four of them are on THE SAME SMALL RECORD LABEL, so I think we can safely say that this is Harry's. But I'd love to see Clooney win, just because she's lost out to Tony Bennett (shudder) so many times. (Don't get me wrong: classic Bennett is great, but let's not give him a Grammy award every time he belches.) Car Wheels on a Gravel Road ? Dylan's album is up for Album of the Year he'll win this one so they can give the other award to someone younger.

Extractions: Home About Archives Photos ... Main Monday January 29, 2001 home again, safe at last So I already blogged my trip . Except for the awful part: On Friday afternoon, Michael and I drove from work to the San Jose airport. It was our first time at that airport; we chose it because it's close to work and it has nonstops to Phoenix. Finally, the booth guy agreed to leave his post and drive the six of us to the airport. We got to the terminal around 4:30, and Michael and I walked/ran to the gate. Neither of us were checking bags (fortunately), and we even had a few minutes to spare. We were both worried about the flight being oversold, but we were in luck. I can handle SFO, and I love the Oakland airport, but I'm never flying out of San Jose again. Posted by Bill at January 29, 2001 09:24 AM Comments Just for the record I've never had a problem flying from San Jose and I've done it countless times, except when my ticket to London wasn't paid for at the last minute but that's another story altogether. Just the same I have had problems flying out of SFO. To each his own but I'd give it another chance. I'd also leave earlier because of traffic. ;-)

Extractions: This list was created with those predictors with the highest number of correctly predicted winners ranked highest. When a tie was determined, an attempt at breaking that tie was made by determining the percentage correct of those predator's predictions. When ties still existed, those ties were broken by the predictor's predicted top eight category prediction percentage. Even still, ties remain. We can now either stick with the ties or break them with the winner of future fist fights. Both myself and Sid, of The Oscar Race, tied for "first place" with seventeen correct predictions each. I must admit I feel odd listing myself for a tied first place ranking but the numbers and our individual prediction websites, speak for themselves. In an odd coincidence, both Sid and myself correctly predicted the same categories correctly or incorrectly. Additionally, we both incorrectly predicted the Original Song category, Sid predicted
