Ballard's novel (1973), it is a journey into self-destruction and sexual feelings related to car crashes. James Ballard (James Spader) is a television commercial producer. Like his wife, he is into adulterous affairs, and both are aware of this fact. As Ballard escapes an almost lethal car accident with Dr. Helen Remington (Holly Hunter) whose husband gets killed, he begins to be fascinated and turned on by the combination of mortal danger and sex. An excessive, violent, loud and stupid beyond belief movie that will appeal only to those fresh from a lobotomy, 3000 Miles To Graceland is the Battlefield Earth of the action genre. The plot centers around two ex-convicts, the vicious Murphy (Kevin Costner) and the somewhat more benign Michael (Kurt Russell). Along with a gang of three other guys (Christian Slater, Bokeem Woodbine and David Arquette), the two plan on robbing a Las Vegas casino during an Elvis Impersonator convention. Dressed as Elvis Impersonators, they carry off the robbery, but not before piling up about several hundred (and one Elvis Impersonator midget!) cops and innocent people during their escape. Afterwards, there is some arguing about dividing up the loot, which is just the thing Murphy needs to knock everyone off and keep the loot for him. But, Michael survives, and with a mother (Courtney Cox-Arquette) and her son (David Kaye) in tow, Michael races off up north to launder the money before Murphy can catch up to him.

Don't they look so happy and so much in love? In every photo I see they look like they are still on their honeymoon. How sweet. Courteney is living the life every American girl dreams about: to be discovered, land a hit TV show, be successful in the movies, all while keeping her personal life together. Her personal life is more than together she managed to meet and marry a smart and funny guy. From what I have heard, Courteney is no dummy herself. She has the hobby of buying fixer-upper houses and re-doing them. I think she was going to become an architect if fame did not work out. Apparently she is nothing like "Monica", the perfectionist she plays on Friends. She is much nicer and she always exudes a positive attitude. In her marriage, Courteney immediately showed her Southern values by taking her husband's last name. I was surprised but thrilled the first time I saw "Courteney Cox Arquette" in the Friends' credits. On to David. I don't know much all that much about David. I think he quite intelligent but a bit goofy. I may be basing that on Dewey, the character he played in Scream. Even if he really is goofy, I think that is part of his charm. It's a good kind of goofy and he keeps out of trouble. Either way, I bet he keeps Courteney entertained between takes and while she is fixing up those houses.

But unlike most movies, the Scream movies have always been smarter than commentaries about it, and in particular, smarter than the commentaries about its commentaries on movies. Scream 3 is more of the same, only the movie references and analyses are made literal. The location is Hollywood, introduced under the opening credits as the famous hillside sign beset by chopper lights while a radio newscaster reports a "multi-injury freeway accident." In other words, this is la-la-land in the year 2000, a place that's not about gala premiere searchlights and red carpets, but daily havoc and anxious surveillance. And it's appropriate that this is where the Scream crew has ended up, in the idea-of-a-city that discovered them, loved them, ate them up and spit them out.
