Extractions: Chelsea Quinn Yarbro A reader recommends: Another interesting historical author is Chelsea Quinn Yarbroher Count St. Germain vampire series. Lovers of Vampire horror novels regularly complain that Yarbro's St. Germain isn't "vampire" enoughactually he's a very intelligent, compassionate and ethical person. I think of Yarbro as primarily a very well-researched historical novelist and using a vampire is mainly a literary device to have a continuing character in diverse historical settings. (i.e. ancient Egypt, ancient Rome, World War I Germany, Medivial France, etc.) YERBY, FRANK (1916-1991) (Grolier) Frank Yerby, b. Augusta, Ga., Sept. 5, 1916, d. Nov. 29, 1991, first became widely known through his best-selling novel The Foxes of Harrow (1946; film, 1947). Pride's Castle (1949), Fair Oaks (1957), and Griffin's Way (1962), set in the Civil War period, helped correct romantic myths about slavery and Reconstruction in the South. In such later novels as Speak Now (1969) and The Dahomean (1971), Yerby returned to the subject matter of his early stories to write directly of the black experience. Later works included Devilseed (1984) and McKenzie's Hundred (1985). Bibliography:
