If you have come to this page via a browser, I hope you will find something of interest here or elsewhere in our other Hendry Family History Pages or even in the rest of Our Hendry Family Web Site. If you find anything of interest, you can e-mail me at john@thehendrys.freeserve.co.uk On the 20th May 1804 an Ebenezer Hendry o f Alloa parish married a Margaret Donaldson of St. Ninians parish. This, at the moment, is the earliest definite record we have of our Hendry family. One can assume that this Ebenezer Hendry was between twenty and thirty when he got married, which would make him born between 1774-1784. The births/baptisms of two Ebenezer Hendrys are recorded in the Parish Registers of Clackmannanshire during this period, one recorded in the Clackmannan parish register as born to Ebenezer Hendry and Janet Blackwood on 11th August 1776 , and one recorded in the Alloa Parish Register as born to John Hendry, a shoemaker, and Margaret Neil on 25th September 1782. As of this moment in time I have found no facts or evidence to link either of these Ebenezers to the one who subsequently married Margaret Donaldson. It is possible that neither are correct, and it was, in fact, some as yet unidentified Ebenezer Hendry. If Margaret Donaldson's subsequent husband was one of these two Ebenezers, then best guess would be that she actually married Ebenezer, the son of

Extractions: A Sketch Of The Life Lieut. Daniel MacMurphy The early years of our Worthy Patriot were spent on this homestead, but were unhappily clouded with the early death of his father, by drowning in the Powell River at Kingston, a neighboring town, on February 19, 1734. It was several days later, that his body was recovered and brought to Londonderry for burial, in the old grave yard of the first settlers. Nothing can be said of the education of Daniel MacMurphy, the family was broken up, and the sons scattered to earn their own living. The estate which includes the homestead, second division and amendment lands, was sold and the proceeds divided by agreement. Some of the deeds of sale indicate quitclaims to various members of the family. In 1755 he was 24 years of age, and on January 8th quitclaimed all his interest in his honored father's estate to his brother Alexander MacMurphy 370 pounds. Then it appears that he went to New Boston, N.H., and bought a farm. By looking at the Diary of Matthew Patten, on the date of January 10, 1768, it will be seen that Daniel MacMurphy had a wife and was living in New Boston. By tradition we learn, that his wife's maiden name was Mary Tolford. By further reference to the Diary, it appears that Jean MacMurphy, sister of Daniel MacMurphy, made her home with her brother in New Boston, February 2, 1759, and again mentioned March 10, 1759. Again March 4, 1761, it is shown that Daniel MacMurphy was at work upon building a bridge over the Piscataquog River, and his cousin, Matthew Patten drew up his account for settlement with the selectmen. In this period of unsettled home and business, it is very difficult to assign the order and birth of children, in the family of Daniel and Mary Tolford MacMurphy.

Extractions: The birthplace of Lexington lies within the current city limits of his namesake town Lexington, Kentucky. The great runner and sire was bred by Dr. Elisha Warfield, one of the most important early figures in Kentucky racing and breeding, and one of the founders of the Kentucky Association Race Track, adjacent to Warfield's farm, The Meadows. The Association track is long gone, and its historic gates now grace the entrance to the Keeneland Racecourse on the other side of town, but vestiges of The Meadows still remain just a few blocks north and east of modern downtown Lexington. Stone pillars mark the south and west entrances to what is now an older residential neighborhood with streets named Meadows Lane, Warfield Place, Carneal Place, and Darley Drive. Darley was the name Warfield had given to the bay colt by Boston out of his top racemare Alice Carneal, foaled on March 17, 1850, since the flashy bay reminded him of a portrait of the Darley Arabian, also a bay with a blaze. Although he raced in the colors of Dr. Warfield, who had been in the process of retiring from the turf, he was leased to trainer, Henry Brown. Darley made his first start in the spring of his three-year-old year, in the Association Stakes contested over mile heats at the Association track on May 23, 1853. The field was on edge, possibly due to the muddy conditions, and the Boston colt found himself part of the group that bolted before the start. Despite having run over 2 miles before the official break, in the race itself, Darley led from flagfall to finish, as he did in the second heat, thus leaving a remarkable first impression.
