The reel contains, in chronological order, most issues of THE NEW ERA from May 23, 1865 through May 22, 1866; scattered issues of THE FREDERICKSBURG NEWS from February 16,1874 through December 31, 1874; most issues from January through June, 1875; and representative issues from January, 1876 through September 18, 1882. The microfilm copy used for preparing this index was provided by the Central Rappahannock Regional Library, Caroline and Lewis Streets, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401. The index was prepared by Robert Hodge. The four-page, six-column, twice-weekly papers were scanned for most names and events of interest to local historians and genealogists. Each entry consists of essentially four parts: Name, Reason for being, Publication date, and Page/Column numbers. The electronic version was created by the Center for Historic Preservation at Mary Washington College by scanning a copy of the text and then modifying the format to fit a table. Comments, or corrections to this index should be sent to Gary Stanton at Mary Washington College.

Extractions: Chronological Index INTRODUCTION This guide describes collections documenting literature, reading, and writing in the Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley Collections (LLMVC) at LSU. It includes the papers of authors, novelists, playwrights, poets, journalists, editors, critics, professors, and historians as writers . Materials in the collections include drafts of literary works (novels, short stories, essays, and plays, among other genres) correspondence, diaries, biographical sketches, research materials, galley proofs, and book reviews. "Literary works" as defined here include popular works, poetry transcribed in diaries, and other common efforts at literary expression. Collections dealing with reading and publishing are also described in this guide. Diary-writing in itself (apart from diaries that contain literature or are the diaries of literary authors) does not qualify a collection for inclusion in this guide. Other diaries will be found in the guides to plantations and women's collections. Most of the collections are from Louisiana, but there are also materials from other areas of the Lower Mississippi Valley. In addition to these resources, please see the

Extractions: Chronological Index INTRODUCTION This guide describes manuscript collections documenting women's history in the Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley Collections at LSU. It includes the papers of women, women's organizations, family papers with significant bodies of women's papers in them, and other collections that document women's history in one way or another. LSU is fortunate because it collected women's papers very early, perhaps without systematically trying to do so. Women's voices, often buried in plantation collections and Civil War papers, have emerged from obscurity only in recent decades. Researchers coming to LSU can study the letters and diaries of plantation mistresses and teachers, the papers of women writers, and the papers of black women, among other sources. A number of our women's collections have been recently microfilmed by University Publications of America in its series on Southern Women and their Families, making these collections more widely accessible. Collections in this guide are listed alphabetically, with a chronological index after the alphabetical listing. Brief descriptions include references to sources for additional informationeither the

Brussels Essay to living outside the protection of the 2nd Wall. The enormous Palais de Justice,18661883, by Joseph area around Square Ambriorix and Square Marie Louise. http://www.dayglow.ndirect.co.uk/work/brus/
Extractions: The physical growth of Brussels Contents Growth up to 1200 The XIIIth and XIVth centuries By this time Brussels had all the characteristics of a proper town, with six churches, five hospitals, two markets and a large, but anarchic, circulation system. The population continued to grow strongly especially along the major routes. The lower classes in the lower part of the town and the nobility and wealthy merchants in the upper town around the Coudenberg palace. By the mid XIVth century the population had increased to such an extent that it became necessary to build a second wall around the town. This wall 8km long, contained seven gates and defined the pentagon that is still clearly visible on the map of Brussels today. The area contained by this wall was large enough to satisfy the needs the town until well into the XIXth century. The land between the two walls, however, was still largely rural and was mainly used as fields, vin yards and meadows, with the Ducal forest, the Warrande, starting in the east and continuing to the south of the city outside the walls. The area along the Rue Haute became highly populated during this time and was where the majority of the city's weavers could be found. The cloth industry was of great importance to the economy of the city, and remained so until the industrial revolution. The XVth, XVIth and XVIIth centuries
