Later Stanford submitted a design for a fountain and obtained permission to execute it, but no better material could be given him than the local bluestone from the prison quarry. He worked for four years on it and became exemplary in his conduct. Summers told his friends about it and many appeals were made for the release of the prisoner. He was "discharged to freedom by remission" on 28 October 1870, the fountain was set up in the triangular piece of ground between parliament house and the treasury building, and there Stanford gave it its finishing touches. It is an excellent piece of design, amazingly successful when the conditions under which it was produced are considered. Stanford set up as a monumental mason at Windsor, a suburb of Melbourne. There he married and was respected and liked by his neighbours. His business was successful and he made a reputation for his carved headstones. One of these may be seen on the main drive of the St Kilda cemetery not far from the gate. Another example of his work is on his wife's grave at the Melbourne cemetery. He died in 1880 partly from the effects of inhaling the fine dust while working on the fountain. William Moore

Extractions: Few men have had a more varied and interesting career than Mr. George Collingridge, of Sydney, and yet now, on the verge of seventy, he is more vigorous and buoyant than the average youth. His parents gave him a good constitution and the fairies bestowed upon him their choicest gift - the gift of happiness. Age cannot wither nor custom stale his invincible cheerfulness. If you have the privilege of his acquaintance, he will talk to you of his boyhood in the pleasant land of France, of his friendship with the great artists Corot and Vierge, of Paris during the Franco-Prussian war, of the Garibaldian struggle in Italy and the battles in which he fought, or, with even greater animation, of early Australian geography, the beginnings of Art in Australia, the universal language - Esperanto, or the good times coming for Australia. You get the impression of a bright personality, rejoicing in life, looking back upon the past with pleasure, and to the future with confidence.
Papers Of Chester & Edith Wilmot - MS 8436 SERIES 12 Family history research material, 18721990, collected by and t/s lettersto the Editor by Wilmot T/s of speeches at Sir Bertram Stevens dinner of http://nla.gov.au/nla.ms-ms8436
Extractions: This collection was presented to the National Library by Edith Wilmot in 1991 and arrived in Canberra in January 1992. It consists primarily of Chester Wilmot's papers, but also includes material added by Edith Wilmot in the years since Chester's death. The papers in series 7-13 were not thoroughly itemised in the despatch list. Unlike the well-ordered "files", these papers had no discernible order. The order in which they have been arranged is therefore one that has been artificially devised by National Library staff. The Liddell Hart Archives in London also holds some Chester Wilmot papers, while the Australian War Memorial holds a collection of papers created by Wilmot in the course of his work on the official history of the Australian involvement in the Second World War. Reginald William Winchester ("Chester") Wilmot was born in Melbourne on 21 June 1911, the son of R.W.E. Wilmot (journalist for the

The reading was taken by her during the month of July this year, in the Town of Constantia, Cleveland, New York - Oswego County. Cleveland North Street Cemetery is in the village of Cleveland, AKA Cleveland Cemetery, located on North Street across the road from the Village Park. Cleveland Cemetery is having major problems with vandalism right now. While doing the recordings, I came across so many stones ( bases and all) toppled over. My husband and one of the village trustees went around fixing them. Kiely is researching the following surnames and would love to share information with others on her family names: Leonard Beebe Bramsley Penree Sharp Phelps Griebno Delong Warner Cummins and Landgraff For further information on any of the names listed below, please contact the local Historical Society, or Town Historian.

From Ridgeway, go a little less than one mile south on Route T to the first gravel road to the left (east). Go east one-and-a-half miles to the cemetery. It is on the right (south) side of the road and is located on the top of a hill approximately 100 yards from the road. There is a large gate and gravel entrance to the cemetery. Local stories say that the cemetery got its name from the large number of former Union soldiers buried there, but a sign at the entrance states that it was founded in 1859. Yankee Ridge Cemetery is still in use and very well maintained. SURNAME GIVEN NAME BIRTH DATE DEATH DATE OTHER INSCRIPTION EDITOR'S NOTES ADAMSON Samuel J. ALLEN Alva L.
