The main advantage of the C++ program is that it not only identifies the concordance lines but the words occurring to the left and the right of the word or phrase searched. It also reports the total number of text lines, the total word count and the number of occurrences of the word or phrase searched. The full text of the book is displayed in a box at the bottom of the screen. Each line of the text is numbered, and the line number and the term(s) searched provide a link to the full text. The Hyper-Concordance displays two pull-down boxes. The user can first choose one of a selection of authors from the box and then one from a list of the author's works. There are four limiting options displayed before searching: case sensitive, non-alphabet character sensitive, head length and tail length. The searcher can also ascertain the book's total word count and vocabulary distribution by searching without a query. I hope this web-based KWIC concordance (Key Word in Context) offers a clear survey of Victorian literary texts. The clan, though ruined and scattered, no sooner heard of his arrival, than they flocked to him in from all quarters, to welcome his return, and in a few days stocked his farm with seven hundred black cattle, which they had saved in the general wreck of their affairs: but their beloved chief, who was a promising youth, did not live to enjoy the fruits of their fidelity and attachment. Editor's Notes: The "Select Works of Tobias Smollett," which included a memoir of Mr. Smollett's life and writings by Sir Walter Scott, was published in 1851. A well traveled and written gentleman the 18th century novelist Tobias George Smollett (1721-1771) was born at Dalquharn House on the family estate of Bonhill in the Vale of Leven, near the village of Renton (Dumbartonshire.) A new family home, the famed "Cameron House" (named after the "crooked" peninsula of land at Loch Lomond on which it is located, not a Cameron family connection) was built in 1763. It now contains a small museum on Tobias Smollett.

Dans l’intervalle d’un parcours qui le conduit de Nevers à Cordes, dernière halte avant Albi, il passe par Avignon où il visite le palais des Papes. Bien qu’il fasse inscrire ce monument majeur de la vallée du Rhône sur la toute première liste, celle de 1840, de monuments historiques, il donne une relation si mitigée de ses impressions qu’on se propose de comparer celles-ci avec les descriptions que d’autres écrivains ont données par la suite. Quelques repères pour l’histoire du palais des Papes Construit par Benoît XII (à partir de 1337) et ses successeurs qui avaient quitté Rome, alors peu sûre, le palais d’Avignon est abandonné par la cour pontificale à la fin du XIVe siècle mais devient le siège du représentant du pape, le légat (1409), puis le vice-légat, et ce, jusqu’à la fin de l’Ancien Régime. En 1790, dans le contexte des premiers événements révolutionnaires, le Comtat-Venaissin, enclave pontificale dans le royaume de France, est annexé, annexion confirmée par le traité de Tolentino en février 1797. Le palais, désormais sans usage, reste vide mais, par chance, et à la différence de l’abbaye de Cluny, il n’est pas vendu comme bien national, ce qui lui évite la démolition. Il acquiert les statuts successifs de fort, de prison – comme le mont Saint-Michel –, puis de caserne – comme le château de Blois.
