This cemetery has regular care and is in fair shape. Most of the marked burials appear to be located in the southwest section of this cemetery. The fenced area surrounding the cemetery is much larger than the area that has marked burials. This cemetery is owned by the Minnesota Historical Society. Over the years there have been several references to this particular cemetery. I have found that one of the best works is The History of Nininger ... More Than Just a Dream, written Leslie A. Guelcher. This book shows a map outlining the cemetery and photographs of some of the burial monuments. In the 1881 "History of the Minnesota Valley", by Rev. Edward D. Neill, he wrote: ...Oakwood Cemetery ... This association was organized 7 June 1856. ... That same year, they purchased fifteen acres of land in the south-east quarter of section 20. The name Oakwood, on account of a very fine grove of oaks which was situated on the land, was selected. The cemetery was surveyed and platted in 1856 . (page 295).

Persons or organizations desiring to use the information contained within in my web pages MUST obtain my written consent. All information is for Non-Profit use only. This cemetery has regular care and is in good shape. The visible cemetery, located along Victoria Drive, is one of two cemeteries located on this property. Within the newer of the two cemetery there are about half a dozen four foot tall cement crosses that appear to be burial monuments. These crosses have an iron crucifix attached to each individual cross, but do not appear to contain any names or dates for the deceased. The other cemetery is located in a heavily wooded ravine about 1000 yards south of the church. The graves in the ravine are no longer individually marked nor is the area regularly maintained. The perimeter of the cemetery in the ravine was marked by four to six large field stones. My understanding is that the cemetery in the ravine was the original cemetery used by this church congregation, but the older cemetery in the ravine has not been used in a very long time. This cemeteries burial monuments were transcribed during the spring of 2000.

Extractions: Saline, Saline Twp., Washtenaw Co., MI Oakhill Cemetery is on 3 acres of land that is situated on the east side of Macon Road between Braun and Willow Roads in Saline MI. It is owned and maintained by the Township of Saline. This cemetery was created from two deeds, the first 1 acre was given to the township by Duncan Robinson for a burying ground. The last 2 acres were given by Milton and Rachel Reynolds in 1874 to the Saline Central Burial Ground as it was known when. The name was changed to Oakhill on Oct 5, 1911. The cemetery officially came under the jurisdiction of Saline Township on Sep 5, 1873 by the dissolution of the Saline Central Burying Ground Corporation. Some of the stones are broken off or are in bad shape and can not be read fully so question marks (?) are in that place. A special thank you to Barbara Burns who transcribed this information. Every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, but human errors are always possible. Confirming the information with personal observation or other sources is always advisable. Basic information has been provided on this website. Burial records obtained from the City of Calgary, show a burial date in the format 23061999 (d/m/yr) When this is the only date available for an individual, it is the one used in the index. Additional information (e.g., monument inscriptions and burial information that may include exact birth and death dates, parents, spouse, etc.) may be available in some cases and can be obtained from the Projects Coordinator, Judie Riddell at safemail("projects","afhs.ab.ca","Projects Chair")

Extractions: Eponyms An eponym is a word derived from the name of a real, fictional, mythical or spurious character or person. Most eponyms originate from a person's surname: boycott , for instance, from the Irish landlord Captain Charles Cunningham Boycott; dahlia , from the Swedish botanist Anders Dahl; the sousaphone , from the American bandmaster John Philip Sousa; and volt , from the Italian physicist Count Alessandro Volta. Many eponymous words come from literary, biblical or mythological sources: malapropism , from Mrs Malaprop in Sheridan's The Rivals Dickensian , from the English writer Charles Dickens; as old as Methuselah , from the age of the Old Testament patriarch; and aphrodisiac , from the Greek goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite. There are thousands of eponyms in everyday use in English today and study of them yields a fascinating insight into the rich heritage of the world's most popular language and its development. Here are some more examples of names that have been immortalised in such a way.
