Extractions: Source unknown. Anna Ricketson was a friend of the Alcott family of Concord, Mass.; her husband Walton was a sculptor. Arranged alphabetically by author. Consists of 41 letters, mostly addressed to Anna Ricketson, several of which relate to the possible publication of her father Daniel Ricketson's correspondence. These include letters from others giving permission for their own letters or family members' letters to Ricketson to be published. Other letters in the collection chiefly relate to personal matters and include several from the writer Lucy Gibbons Morse. There are also several letters addressed to Anna Ricketson and her brother Walton Ricketson from Francis Ellingwood Abbott, a prominent Unitarian and scholar of religion, a clipping about Abbott's suicide, and photographs of Abbott and his wife. The work was published as The Atlantic Neptune [London, 1774-1784] and became the standard guide for navigation for the areas charted.

She was the youngest of six daughters and two sons born to Thomas and Elizabeth Homer Strickland. The family moved to Reydon Hall near Southwold in Suffolk in 1808. Susanna was educated at home by her father, who died in 1818. After their father's death, Susanna and her sisters earned money for the family by writing for periodicals and annuals. Susanna's first story, Spartacus: A Roman Story , was published in 1822, and during the early and mid 1820s she continued to write other morally instructive stories for children and adolescents. From 1827 to 1830 she contributed poems and stories to the literary magazine . After being introduced to the Anti-Slavery Society in England by her friend, the Scottish poet Thomas Pringle, Susanna published The History of the Mary Prince, a West Indian Slave and Negro Slavery Described by a Negro in 1831. Also in 1831, with Pringle's help, she published a collection of her earlier poems, Enthusiam, and Other Poems
