Extractions: South Australia FOREWORD At the General Conference in September, 1957, it was decided to have a complete history of South Australian Churches of Christ prepared for publication, and the writer was asked, by virtue of his long and wide experience in the affairs of the church, to undertake the task. In a previous publication, "The Story of a Century", he had recorded the main lines of growth of the Restoration Movement in the State from 1846 to 1946. The present purpose is to add a brief history of each local congregation so far as data can be obtained, biographical sketches of representative men of the churches and contributions of churchmen in public affairs, chiefly on social questions as they were debated in the legislative chambers. The writer's views on present trends in the life of the Church are also given. The compiler claims that he has done nothing more than make an honest attempt to give a fair picture of the beginning and development of a religious movement which, although represented as yet by only a few thousand people, has contributed not a little to the moral, social and spiritual welfare of various communities and to the State as a whole, perhaps beyond what its numerical strength might suggest.

Aside from the General, Gothic Horror, Early Fantasy, and Medieval sections, these links are organized by region and language group, with those groups which produced written accounts of their myths and legends earlier, generally appearing closer to the beginning. Philip Burns' A description of mythology along with scores if not hundreds of links. It's quite a stash. There is a greater emphasis on folklore than here. He's been annotating them as well. John Adcox maintains a somewhat smaller collection of Mythology and Folklore links. Song, Kang-hee maintains a collection of world mythology links from his site in South Korea. Some viewers may have difficulty with the non-Roman lettering of much of the text. Julia's Ancient World Web contains links to and reviews of a number of sites dealing with archaeology, history, art, mythology and ancient religions. She used to have a separate index for mythology and ancient religions but her site is now undergoing a massive overhaul.

He received a classical education in Mississippi and Virginia. He studied law and was admitted to the bar, but he did not stay long in the legal profession. In 1828, he married Martha Dunbar of Dunbarton Plantation east of Natchez, their intermittent home for a number of years. That same year, he became active in politics, first as an editor of the Natchez Statesman and Gazette , then as a Mississippi legislator and then, from 1835 to 1837, as a member of Congress. In 1835 he established a plantation near plantation using borrowed money, but he lost everything in the Panic of 1837. The following year, he lost his congressional seat in a disputed election. For the next few years, he struggled to overcome his political defeat and financial ruin, as well as consumption, which would plague his health throughout his life. In 1841 he became editor of the Natchez Mississippi Free Trader , and from 1842 to 1844, he was appointed by President John Tyler to serve as Chairman of the Board of Choctaw Commissioners, in which he was to investigate claims under the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek (1830) and to make recommendations about the legitimacy of claims. He returned to journalism in 1844, editing the
