Extractions: : Mrs. Charles A. Herrick Passed Away at Her Home in Shinglehouse, Friday Morning, After a Long Illness. : From the Oswayo Valley Mail. : After an illness of five weeks, Bessie Warner Herrick, wife of Charles A. Herrick, editor of the Oswayo Valley Mail, passed into the valley of the shadow of death at her home in Shinglehouse (Potter, PA), Friday morning, aged 27 years. Death resulted from uremic poisoning, following the birth of a little daughter whose eyes never opened on the light and beauty of this world. : There was a serious illness of ten days preceding the coming of the little one, then a rather rapid gain in strength and for a few days it seemed that the mother would recover. Then there came a change and the physicians in charge shook their heads. There was so little chance, perhaps one in a hundred. There was so much to live for, the love of husband, father, mother, sister, brothers, friends. So for many days the brave little mother battled for life against odds that were overwhelming, exhibiting a heroism and a Christian fortitude that was a marvel to the nurses and the physicians. But the disease advanced remorselessly and when the tired sufferer could battle no longer, she sank to the long sleep from which there is no awakening in this world.
