The cemetery is in two parts, the smaller fenced part being south of the larger part. Mrs. Blake said the property was known as the Smith Farm, but Mrs. Gardner owned it first. Their first five children were born in Louisiana and according to J. E. Gardner, they came in 1851 to Goliad County then to Atascosa County, before it was organized. They settled in Frio County and ran cattle on the open range clear to the old Cochina on the Nueces. Joe Gardner died in about 1865 near the close of the war. She lived until 1882."
