Extractions: Skip the explanation and go straight to the list of books. Here's the offer: You can also write a brief explanation of why you chose these books for inclusion on the CD and provide a photo of yourself and an image that you feel represents the theme of your anthology (that's optional only if you feel like it). This is your opportunity to have a custom-made collection of your favorite books to act as an editor (for instance, making an anthology designed for your class or family or friends), and to earn a few bucks.

Extractions: Roll of Honour With the millions of casualties of the 'Great War' 1914-1918, the island of Jersey lost 862 men. The States of Jersey produced a Roll of all names and military details of the dead. An alphabetical list of those names is reproduced below, a touching record of Death's Toll of the Island's manhood and it is representative of nearly every Jersey patronymic. The Bailiff of Jersey, William Venables Vernon in November 1919, said of the Roll, "Let others that come after see to it that their names be not forgotten." This list is not necessarily exhaustive. A contemporary paper (1917) carried this report;

Members of the class held their 64th mini-reunion on Friday, May 26, with a private luncheon in the Sharpe Refectory. Thirteen classmates and twelve spouses and guests attended. Before lunch, representatives of the Associated Alumni of Brown University presented a plaque to Class President Joseph Galkin for his service to the University. After the luncheon, President Galkin asked classmates to comment on their activities of the past year. One of the topics discussed was the difficulty of finding parking spaces near Brown. A suggestion was made to have the luncheon off-campus to solve the problem. However, 1996 will be our 65th reunion and we hope to attract many who cannot make it to the mini-reunions. Most of the action will be concentrated on campus events, so plan ahead to attend. Attending the luncheon were: Howard Angell Paul Thayer Bob Mawney Eleanor McAndrews Retallick Isabel MacLean Crossman Bob '32 and Rosamond Danielson Bellin Virginia Hunter Jenkins and Charles

Extractions: Français Home Contact Us Help ... A - Z Index Thiosalts are inevitably generated as a by-product from processing sulphidic ores. Eventually, thiosalts contaminated effluent from the treatment ponds is discharged to the environment. Ideally, thiosalts should be degraded in the effluent treatment ponds and the sulphuric acid that is generated from the oxidation of thiosalts to sulphate can be neutralized with lime before the effluent is discharged. In reality, the breakdown of thiosalts in the treatment ponds is sufficiently slow that some of the thiosalt end up in the receiving waters. Subsequent oxidation in the river or lake by autotrophic Thiobacillus bacteria is rapid. The considerable quantity of acid that is produced could bring about acidification of aquatic environments, which might effect fish and other aquatic organisms.
