1875 NYS Census Index Olean The Town of Olean can be found on the 3rd (Volume 3) of 3 microfilms of the 1875NY State Census for Cattaraugus County made by the LDS church. Barber, 46. H. http://www.oleanlibrary.org/1875index.html
Extractions: Town of Olean Please note: This index (of surnames of heads of households only) was made many years ago for the Cattaraugus County Museum at Little Valley, NY and has been digitized by a team of Cattaraugus County researchers. There will be errors, given the difficulty in deciphering some of the handwriting of the original census records. Please check the names carefully, as your family's name may have simply been misspelled or misread. The page number refers to the page of the microfilm of the state census, which can be ordered through your local LDS Family History Center. Our many thanks to the Cattaraugus County Memorial and Historical Museum for making these indices available through the Internet. The 1875 index shows surname only. Mrs. Thomas (Adeline) Weller was the first burial May 1912. From 1912 - 1920, the cemetery was just a fenced piece of pasture land. In 1920, nineteen people met and organized Hardtner Cemetery Association. Each paid an assessment of $1.00. Officers elected were Charles Hickle, president; Mrs. Lee Butcher, secretary; Mrs. Bessie Allen, treasurer. Labor to clean and mow and set out trees was donated. HAZELTON/ROSE HILL CEMETERY Hazelton Cemetery at Hazelton was organized near the same time the city of Hazelton was platted, about 1884. It is located NENE 15-34-10, was originally organized by Hazelton and Cedar Townships, and was tax supported. Blaine Township in Harper County was later brought into the association. This cemetery, known also as Rose Hill Cemetery, has the distinction of being laid out in the form of a wagon wheel; the spokes are formed by drives leading to the center or hub of the wheel. Burials within this pattern are adjusted to the angles of the wheel; those outside the wheel are in the traditional east-west pattern. About 1835-36, a dozen or more graves were moved from the Corwin Cemetery, located northeast of Corwin on the Leo Otis Shroyer farm, into Hazelton Cemetery. Old stones indicate burials were first made in Hazelton Cemetery in 1884.
