Extractions: The Wolf Family Dogs I would like, to begin with, to say that though parents, husbands, children, lovers and friends are all very well, they are not the dog. Elizabeth Von Arnim (1866-1941) Fezziwig A Small Dog! Kelly, our Irish Wolfhound, impressed itself so strongly to Steve that Mary felt like she didn't have a dog. During the Christmas season of 1991, it was decided Mary needed a dog. Again we went to the books and found a toy poodle would be the perfect choice. Based on the recommendation of our vet, we found just what we were looking for at a local breeder. We agonized over a name for this little animal. Mary really enjoys watching Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol . During one such preview, the name "Mr. Fezziwig" was used and BANG! We had a name for our little poodle. Intruder Alert! Upon his arrival at our house, the tiny six pound dog proceeded to walk up to the rather perplexed 157 pound Irish Wolfhound, sniff its nose, walk past it to the Wolfhound's food dish and begin chowing down. This is an excellent example of why the Wolfhounds are called the "gentle giants". This is also why poodles are known as a breed you shouldn't overfeed. They have priorities and food is way up at the top of their concerns. The Vet Said NO!

An earlier painting still (1622), and attributed to Giovanni Francesco Barbieri known as Il Guercino (1591-1666), shows two shepherds looking at a skull on a stone pedestal on which the words are inscribed. Extractions: "I am spirit; I am essence, consciousness, and vitality. I am my very being, but I have covered my soul with the trappings of worldly life. I have lost touch with my being and gathered great measures of clutter as I have journeyed along on my temporary visit here to planet earth. Yet if I take all this accumulated excess away, I again become my true self. This is what my soul yearns, my true self, the love that is within. Truth and love is who I am in the beginning and when I came to this speck in the universe. During my time here I have lost sight of this fact. Yet my instinctive desire remains to love and be loved, its just that I have forgotten. During the course of my life thus far I have buried my soul deep within, covering it so that my mind believes my soul is no longer of consequence. I believe I am in my thinking rather than my feelings; this is to the cost of my soul. I have lost sight of the fact that my deepest yearning is love. I forget that love is what I crave. Deep down I know this; on the surface I barely dare believe it. I am so busy with everyday life, with family, study, work, leisure that I leave little time if any to be with my essence, that vital presence within. But it is me who is responsible for getting thus far in my life, this point where I now find myself, no one elses. While it is true that my background and its associated environment do affect me, I am not their prisoner; I continue to be a free spirit. During my life to date I might perceive myself as doing well or maybe not so well, but in all of these hectic happenings I have strayed from my spiritual being and drifted apart from my soul. I have almost totally lost contact with my inner being, which is my beginning.
