Extractions: Expand Search Topical References Regents Regents Professorships and Lectureships Regents Professorships and Lectureships Regents Professorships and Lectureships were created by the Regents on May 23, 1952 in response to a suggestion made the previous December by Regent John Francis Neylan. The object of the action was to bring nonacademic men and women of outstanding accomplishment to the University so that students and faculty members could benefit from their practical knowledge and experience. Originally restricted to the campuses at Berkeley and Los Angeles, the program has been extended so that all campuses now participate in it to some extent. Appointments are made to people in the fields of agriculture, banking, commerce, engineering, industry, labor, law, medicine, "or any other field of the arts, sciences or professions." Nominations for Regents professor or lecturer are made by members of the faculty or the Regents. The President of the University reviews nominations and submits a roster of candidates for Regental consideration. The chancellors negotiate directly with the candidates recommended by the Regents. Regents professors present a full course of instruction on the host campus for a period of one semester or longer. In addition, they are encouraged to lecture or attend seminars on other University campuses as their schedule permits. Regents lecturers remain on the host campus for a period shorter than a semester and present lectures, participate in seminars, and meet with students and faculty members.VAS

Father Fessio Mary Chuch, River Falls, WI. William Allen, CCD teacher, Nativity of St. Carl H.Horst, Capt., JAGC, USN (Ret.). Nathan L. Macklin, student, Gonzaga University. http://www.cardinalnewmansociety.org/Father_fessio_2.htm
Extractions: Only three months after the Jesuits reassignment of Rev. Joseph Fessio, S.J. sparked an outcry from Catholics nationwide, the Jesuits have allowed Fr. Fessio to accept a new assignment as chancellor of Ave Maria University (MI). His first task will be to establish a new Ave Maria campus in Naples, Florida. What is being planned is so daunting, yet so crucial for the Church in the Americas, that we need the help of seasoned educators, said Ave Maria president Nicholas Healy. I asked the Society of Jesus if they would assign Father Fessio to us, and they graciously agreed. Fr. Fessios reassignment in March to a hospital chaplaincy near Los Angeles was widely seen as retaliation for his defense of the St. Ignatius Institute, a successful Catholic great books program at the University of San Francisco (CA), after the university fired its directors and tightened control over it. Fr. Fessio subsequently helped found Campion College, a two-year program modeled after the St. Ignatius Institute with campuses in San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Fr. Fessios provincial forbade him from any involvement in the new college, which was publicly opposed by USF. He was permitted to maintain a long-distance relationship as editor of Ignatius Press, based in San Francisco.
