The Cemetery was established in 1862. It is a beautiful well kept cemetery. There were about 30 stones in the cemetery that were so weather worn that you could not make out even a name or date. There were a lot of stones with just numbers on them. I am not sure if they were marking a grave or just marking plots. A lot of flowers were still on graves. I walked this entire cemetery on Sep 07, 2003 - Sharon Macormic Adams, Alexander, b. Mar 1892, d. Mar 25, 1893, 1 Yr. 10 days

Click on a student's name to read his biography. Amherst was established in 1759, and is located in Hampshire County . Its parent town was Hadley , from which it received land in 1759, 1789, 1811, 1812, and 1814, and with which it traded land in 1814. Amherst is bordered on the west by Hadley ; on the north by Sunderland and Leverett ; on the east by Shutesbury Pelham, and Belchertown ; and on the south by Granby It is the home of Amherst College and of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Since every student in the Amherst College Biographical Record has obviously spent time at Amherst, hence has been in the town of Amherst, it would be pointless to list all alumni who have spent time in the town. So, the listing above is of all students who have spent time in Amherst, Massachusetts, other than time attending the College (as a student) or receiving a degree(s) there.
