The land for the cemetery was donated by William Davis (1811-1901). Thomas Jefferson Davis (Tom) (son of W. C. Extractions: LANGLEY CEMETERY Jan 1999 History of William Langley Transcribed and submitted by Gloria B. Mayfield, Panola Co. Coordinator Langley Cemetery is located about .3 of a mile east of Beckville on CR 124. This cemetery is well cared for with a covered area for the grave workings. I found about 25 graves that had markers in 1970 when Leila B. LaGrone published her book that are no longer marked. I have added these names to my list. The Annual Memorial Day for Langley Cemetery will is held on the 3rd Saturday in May at the Cemetery, located east of Beckville on FM124. Business meeting begins at 10:45 am followed by Memorial services, and a covered dish lunch will be served immediately following the services. Upkeep and improvements for the cemetery are financed by individual contributions and interest from an endowment fund. Extractions: ADAMS CEMETERY Phelps County Missouri Take Highway 72 south-east 3/10 of a mile from Rolla City Limits to County Road F. Go 7.2 miles on County Road F to county road 3550. Take County Road The Cemetery was established in 1862. Is a beautiful well kept cemetery. There were about 30 stones in the cemetery that were so weather worn that you could not make out even a name or date. There were a lot of stones with just numbers on them. I am not sure if they were marking a grave or just marking plots. This cemetery is well kept. A lot of flowers were still on graves. Extractions: Late in 1977, Nancy Chambers Underwood published a genealogical volumecomprising nearly 570 pages under the title Fifty Families: A History.Each of the families featured in this work, representing a decade ofresearch, is connected in some way with the family of Mrs. Underwood. Oneof these is a branch of the Sparks family to which eight pages of textare devoted along with several pages of photographs. This chapter wascontributed by Baxter Abbott Sparks, Jr., long a member of the SparksFamily Association. The ancestor of this particular Sparks family was William MillingtonSparks, a Maryland planter, who was married on May 25, 1797, to RebeccaBrooks. A son was Samuel Wyatt Sparks, born July 7, 1803; he marriedSarah Deal in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1829. Samuel Wyatt Sparks lived inMississippi and Arkansas before finally settling with his family inLampasas County, Texas, in 1857. Among the children of Samuel W. and Sarah (Deal) Sparks was John Sparks,born August 30, 1843, who was twice elected governor of Nevada, in 1903and in 1907. Another son was Martin Van Buren Sparks, born April 3, 1837,whose portrait has been reproduced in this volume. He married SusanLouise Bull. Information is given on the descendants of Martin Van BurenSparks, including Andrea Jean Sparks, his great-great-granddaughter (born1951) who married George Milton Underwood III, son of the compiler ofthis work.
