Auditory System: Physiology Tour A tutorial on the anatomy and physiology of where and how sound is processed in the brain. http://serous.med.buffalo.edu/hearing
Extractions: The Auditory Central Nervous System the system The human auditory system provides us with vast amounts of information about the world around us. Our auditory system allows us to make pitch and tone judgments . These are essential to appreciation of music and contribute to our understanding speech. In physics terms, pitch tells us about the frequency of sound. Our ears (or more accurately our ears and brains) also allow us to locate the source of a sound. To perform this localization function, the brain combines timing (or more specifically delay or phase) and amplitude information from the sound with information from our other senses. This web site is about how our brains process the relatively simple information given to it by the cochlea into conscious and unconscious perceptions of the world around us. the site This site was built as part of a neurophysiology course. It was designed to provide an overview of the pathways traveled by auditory information through the central nervous system. It is intended primarily for pre-med and medical students, but I have attempted to make it as accessible as possible. In general the site is organized into sections based on the major anatomical structures in the auditory pathway. From there the reader can delve as deep as they feel comfortable into the physiology and connectivity of any particular structure. I have tried to take advantage of the non-linear nature of web browsing by providing links for the reader to jump to related material in other sections.

Members of this family include ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, and others. This introduction discusses the physical, chemical, and physiological aspects of the most commonly ingested of these - ethanol. Alcohol (ethanol) is a clear, volatile liquid that burns (oxidizes) easily. It has a slight, characteristic odor and is very soluble in water. Alcohol is an organic compound composed of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen; its chemical formula is C2H5OH. Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant and it is the central nervous system which is the bodily system that is most severely affected by alcohol (see chart below). The degree to which the central nervous system function is impaired is directly proportional to the concentration of alcohol in the blood Stages of alcohol intoxication BAC
Rudolf Steiner: Principles Of Psychosomatic Physiology The first description by Steiner of man as a threefold being and the basic relation between thinking, feeling and willing and the three organ systems of the human body. http://hem.passagen.se/thebee/Steiner/SoulRiddles-PsSomPhys.htm
Extractions: (Appendix 6 of Von Seelenrätseln (1917), translated and commented by Owen Barfield, and published 1970 as "The Case for Anthroposophy", extracts from Von Seelenrätseln, by London: Rudolf Steiner Press . Put here with the kind permission of R. S. Press.) My object here is to present in outline certain conclusions I have reached concerning the relations between the psychic and the physical components of the human being. I may add that, in doing so, I place on record the results of a systematic spiritual investigation extending over a period of thirty years. It is only in the last few of those years that it has become practicable to formulate these results in concepts capable of verbal expression, and thus to bring the investigation to at least a temporary close. I must emphasise that it is the results and the results alone that I shall be presenting, or rather indicating, in what follows. Their foundation in fact can certainly be established on the basis of contemporary science. But to do this would require a substantial volume; and that my present circumstances do not permit of my writing. If we are seeking for the actual relation between psychic and physical, it will not do to take as our starting-point Brentano's distribution of psychic experience into representation, judgement and the responses of love and hate. Partitioning in this way, we are led to shelve so many relevant considerations that we shall reach no reliable results. On the contrary we have to
