Extractions: Mission The Empowerment Pro gram is a community-level HIV prevention program for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth and young adults. Through community outreach activities, weekly discussion groups, and peer-led HIV prevention workshops participants learn to decrease their risk for HIV. With the support of adult role models and their peers, LGBTQ youth gain valuable leadership, decision-making, and advocacy skills. They also develop confidence and friendships by planning and leading a myriad of youth-focused social activities. What Do We Do? The Empowerment Project consists of five program components: 1) Support Groups The Empowerment Leadership Group (ELG) Queer Youth Action Team (QYAT) Activities and Special Events ; 5) Bump and Grind with Safe Sex in Mind Workshops. All programs are open to youth and young adults, are offered free of charge, and are confidential.
