Extractions: SANAA, Yemen, May 1 (UPI) The Yemeni government and opposition parties are exchanging accusations involving the manipulation of terrorism issues to serve their own interests. For the past week, the ruling General Popular Congress party and Prime Minister Abdel Kader Bajamal have accused the opposition groups, especially Islamic parties, of sympathizing with terrorists operating in Yemen. GPC's Deputy Secretary-General Mohammed al-Aidarouss accused the Islamic Yemeni Gathering for Reforms party of "conspiring with terrorists and providing them with shelters and support." He was quoted by the pro-government "September 26" daily of charging the Islamic party was involved in terrorist activities in the country, including the bombing of a U.S. warship in Aden four years ago. Al-Aidarouss charged the opposition was denouncing terrorist actions abroad, including those in neighboring Saudi Arabia, while supporting terrorists at home. On the other hand, daily al-Sahwa, a publication of the Islamic opposition party, charged the government with "manipulating the issue of terrorism" and transforming it into "a means of blackmail against political forces which are not on its side."
