Extractions: The Forest Lake Area School District No. 831 is located 30 miles north of the Twin Cities, along the I-35 corridor that runs north to Duluth. It is an area dotted by lakes, rolling hills, woods, and small towns. Many residents enjoy our rural, small-town life, and find they can easily commute to the Twin Cities area. Most schools 100 years ago were one-room rural school buildings scattered throughout the towns and countryside. Through consolidation of the small locally-controlled school districts over the years, the Forest Lake Area School district now encompasses 240 square miles, with seven elementary school buildings (K-6), a Montessori Elementary School (K-6), two junior high schools (7-9), a senior high school (10-12), and an Area Learning Center (6-12). The communities served are: Forest Lake, May Township, New Scandia Township, Wyoming, Lino Lakes, Columbus Township, Linwood Township, and parts of Marine-on-St. Croix, Hugo, Stacy, Ham Lake, Wyoming Township, and East Bethel. 7,651 K-12 students are enrolled for the 2003-04 school year. The academic efforts of our students are supported by excellent teachers (67% of our staff have earned a Masters Degree), challenging curriculum, technology, high standards, and a safe learning environment. The school district's strong traditional academic program is enhanced by award-winning co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, gifted education offerings, and a full range of special education programming. Five Forest Lake Area School District elementary schools have been recognized as Minnesota Schools of Excellence.

Extractions: Mental Health Division State Hospital About Us The State of Wyoming has demonstrated a historical interest in the mentally ill, as is demonstrated by a legislative proclamation on December 7, 1869, that stated, "provide for ...idiots, lunatics, and insane persons by transporting them to any eastern asylum". In March of 1886, the Wyoming Territorial Legislature appropriated $30,000 for the erection of a State Mental Hospital. The "Insane Asylum" was completed in 1887. On March 1, 1897, the fourth Wyoming Legislature changed the Hospital name to the Wyoming State Hospital for the Insane. In 1923, the Seventeenth Legislature declared "the official name of the asylum shall be the Wyoming State Hospital ." As the forward evolution of the Hospital name changes indicate, there is no resemblance between the multi-faceted complex of today and the original institution. The first building in 1887 housed male patients and their attendants on the first floor, women patients and their attendants on the second floor, and kitchens, pantries, and storerooms in the basement. The present campus encompasses over twenty-five buildings. In addition to the five treatment units housed in nine treatment halls there are facilities for staff as well as a chapel, Canteen Country Store, and a dining room - kitchen complex for residents and staff. You will also find the usual array of service buildings that include the laundry, maintenance shop, garages and general supply storage buildings.
