This website is designed to provide information about Wisconsin's Amber Alert program, a statewide child abduction alert system. The goal is to provide a system that uses immediate broadcasts through radio and television stations to assist law enforcement agencies in their quest to find abducted children and return them safely to their parents. We are all responsible for ensuring the safety of children in our communities. I am proud of the collaborative efforts of the Wisconsin Department of Justice, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, Wisconsin Public Radio, the Educational Communications Board and law enforcement agencies to develop the Amber Alert system and help keep children safe in their communities. Sincerely, Peg Lautenschlager

Some have more than one (e.g., one for petroleum resources, one for general geology, and one for water resources), and some have delegated the responsibilities to a unit within a state university. Most, but not all of these institutions are connected to the Internet. For all of these agencies, we've included snail mail addresses as well as known email and Internet links.

Teacher Education FAQs Newsletter ... Accreditation > Detailed Description Accreditation The United States has no Federal Ministry of Education or other centralized authority exercising single national control over postsecondary educational institutions in this country. The states assume varying degrees of control over education, but, in general, institutions of higher education are permitted to operate with considerable independence and autonomy. As a consequence, American educational institutions can vary widely in the character and quality of their programs. In order to insure a basic level of quality, the practice of accreditation arose in the United States as a means of conducting non-governmental, peer evaluation of educational institutions and programs. Private educational associations of regional or national scope have adopted criteria reflecting the qualities of a sound educational program and have developed procedures for evaluating institutions or programs to determine whether or not they are operating at basic levels of quality. During the past 10 years, UW-Extension and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) have provided annual grants and contracts to support this educational programming. Supplemental funding has also been provided by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (WDATCP), the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Farm Services Agency (FSA) in Wisconsin. In consultation with these agencies, in addition to the Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association and other public and private sector partner entities, UW-Extension is leading an interagency commitment to citizen-based watershed programs. This effort focuses on a statewide educational support network administered along river basin lines.
