Extractions: Updated: 12/15/03 A wonderful way to get students on the INTERNET in quality learning situations is to create a Webquest or Scavenger Hunt. Hunts can be curriculum related and highly motivational. The teacher ensures "safer faster hunting" by finding the links first and cuts down on the time required to complete the hunt. They can be very simple or difficult depending on the student level. Questions can have a link for the student to click on to find the answer. Scavenger Hunts are usually one word or sentence answers. Webquests require more (analyzing, decisions-making, synthesizing) A hunt could take a student to many different websites OR just one. Other quests can require the student to search for the answer. Some quests supply key words and the particular search engine. Every time students visit a web site, they are working on reading comprehension

INTRODUCTION Throughout the developmental training, (1996-97) DEVELOPMENTAL TRAINING teachers were demonstrating and presenting methodologies and using on-line resources to enhanced their classroom delivery. During the second year,(1997-98) we focused on refining these methodologies as well as training teachers to create Web-based instructional activities to bring back to their classrooms. Not surprisingly much of what we want to know about the internet is freely available on the Internet. For those of you who are very new to the Internet some of the jargon will be completely incomprehensible. One site that is always useful is the WebTeacher http://www.webteacher.org/macnet/indextc.html which provides technical details for just about everything you would want to know about the web and its functions from emailing through your web browser to FTP and image files and so on Another useful site to develop some Internet knowhow is The Net Users Guidelines and Netiquette http://www.fau.edu/netiquette/net/index.html This site really deals with user responsibility in having access to vast services, sites, systems and people on the Internet. The user is ultimately responsible for his/her actions in accessing network services and it is important that teachers know and understand their responsibilties not only as personal users but when their students are users as well.
