Special Report WASHINGTON (CNN) Amid claims that military commanders are frustrated that U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld did not send enough troops to Iraq, President Bush, through a senior administration official, expressed confidence in the man running the war and the plan he helped to develop. "The president has tremendous faith in Secretary Rumsfeld, his generals and Secretary Rumsfeld's leadership, Secretary Rumsfeld's decisions. And it's borne out by what the president views as a successful military campaign," the administration official said Tuesday.

Extractions: White House spokesman Ari Fleischer says the recommended assistance levels are excessive. Story Tools WASHINGTON (CNN) Setting up a showdown with Congress that could slow a spending bill to help pay for the war in Iraq, the White House said Wednesday the more than $3 billion passed by House and Senate appropriations committees to bail out the airline industry is "excessive." "The administration does not oppose some assistance to the airlines, but given the economic facts on the ground, we believe that the level of airline assistance recommended by the House and Senate Committees are excessive," said White House spokesman Ari Fleischer. The difference of opinion could tie up passage of the $74.7 billion funding package sent to Congress to help pay for war with Iraq and the global fight against terrorism. The airline aid boosts the total cost to closer to $80 billion. The House Appropriations Committee included $3.2 billion for the airlines in the package; the Senate version was $3.5 billion. The airline aid was first proposed by the president's fellow Republicans, and passed the House and Senate panels Tuesday.

Extractions: CNN Washington Bureau WASHINGTON (CNN) The White House has revealed that members of its energy task force met six times with representatives from Enron Corp., the company that declared bankruptcy last month in the largest filing in U.S. history. Vice President Dick Cheney also met once with the failed corporation's chairman and sat on a panel with him in the months preceding Enron's collapse, the administration said. Cheney's counsel, David Addington, disclosed the meetings in a letter to Rep. Henry Waxman, D-California, who has been pressing the administration to turn over information about its meetings with Enron, accused of overstating its profits. Waxman also wants to know whether the company discussed its "precarious financial position" in any contacts with the White House. "Enron did not communicate information about its financial position in any of the meetings with the vice president or with the National Energy Policy Development Group's support staff," wrote Addington in a letter dated January 3, last Thursday.
