In California's 1993 elections, proponents argued that school vouchers would reduce public expenditures and drive school reform; opponents claimed that they would reduce public-school quality without saving money at all. Written to help voters sort out the competing claims, this report highlights the relative costs of using vouchers as outlined in that proposition. The findingsbased on a complex simulation analysis of student enrollment, tax revenues and other trends over the next decademay shed light on future voucher proposals and other school reform initiatives.

They stock up on notebooks and supplies. Some can hardly wait for opening day. Others approach it with all the enthusiasm of 18th-century French nobles going to the guillotine. The majority of children will attend traditional schools, public or private. A minority will opt for alternatives. Home schooling, once a necessity for pioneers and those in isolated locations, is enjoying a resurgence of popularity. Parents may choose it because they are dissatisfied with the quality of available schooling, because they are unhappy with the curriculum, or because they wish their offspring to be taught in accordance with their own beliefs and religious convictions.

Here's what I found. Number of military personnel permanently assigned to EUCOM now( Number of school children under Clark's command: (According to Clark in the 60 min II interview) Number of military spouses Clark would also have been responsible for: I couldn't find exact data for this, but according to http://www.defenselink.mil/prhome/poprep2001/appendixb/b_24.htm in 2001, 48.18% of active component enlisted military members were married. Some of them were married to each other, so we'll round that down to 45% having civilian spouses, and assume that EUCOM was representative of the military as a whole. That gives us 116,400 * .45 = approx military spouses.

And such soldiers, too! bravest among the brave; none better ever adorned the history of any State or Nation. We owe to these noble men, living or dead, an imperishable debt of gratitude, love and honor." newly elected Vermont Governor Paul Dillingham , Inaugural address, 1865. The Vermont Civil War Hemlocks are dedicated to proudly and accurately portraying the common Vermont infantry and artillery soldier during the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865. One of the oldest Civil War living history organizations, the Hemlocks take their name from the spring of evergreen worn as an identifying badge in the caps of Vermont troops. The Hemlocks were founded in 1963, during the one hundredth anniversary of the Civil War, by Andrew Fisher, a history teacher at Concord High School. As part of the Expo weekend the Hemlocks will set up a campsite, with period tents, flags, and cook fire, on the fair grounds. Group members will engage in the activities of the Civil War soldier - marching, drilling, posting guard, writing letters, and cooking meals. Expo attendees can walk through the campsite, talk to the soldiers, and learn more about the life of the Vermont volunteer nearly 140 years ago. Cannon-firings will take place between 10:00 - 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 - 4:30 p.m. both days.
