Schulz Clifford's First Valentine's Day Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink Activities: 1. Give each child a small cardboard heart and ask them to estimate how many candy conversation hearts will fit on the surface (area) of it. They can record this on a piece of paper. Then, have them glue one on every inch of the heart. When it's dry, have each child count the number of candy hearts and write how many were able to fit on the heart. Was their estimate too big, to small or exactly right? 2. ESTIMATING/AREA: I give each child a heart cut out of cardboard along with some conversationhearts. I ask the children to estimate how many candies will fit on thesurface area of the heart if every space is covered. They record this on a recording sheet. Then they glue as many candy hearts onto the cardboard as they can. The next day (when the glue has dried) I have the children count how many hearts actually fit on the cardboard heart and record that on the recording sheet also. Then they circle the appropriate words to fill in this sentence: My estimate was too big too small exactly right 3. I have each child decorate a white paper lunch bag to put their Valentines in.

Extractions: More Get Involved Articles Valentine's Day can be great fun for your child as she prepares valentines for her friends and then gets that shoebox filled with valentines in return. It also can be a wonderful opportunity to talk with her about friendship, love, and consideration. Valentine's Day can help teach your child about treating everyone equally, caring for one's friends, and strength of character. Many teachers require students to give a valentine to everyone in the class, but what if your child doesn't want to send a card to all of his peers? Explain that sending valentines to everyone in his class shows kindness because it prevents people from feeling hurt or left out if they don't receive many valentines. Ask your child to think about how he would feel if he didn't get as many valentines as others. Not every teacher insists on a card for every student, so what can you do if your child isn't one of the popular kids? Explain to her that what matters most is not how many valentines she receives, but that they come from her true friends. Help your child understand that the quality, not the quantity, of her friendships matters most on Valentine's Day and every other day of the year, and that true friends should be treasured. If a bully decides to torment your child by giving him a nasty valentine, how do you fix his broken heart? After giving him a loving hug, assure him that he has done nothing wrong and explain that bullies want to know that they've hurt someone. Encourage him to ignore the nasty valentine and instead to think about the valentines he received from his real friends. Helping your child feel good about himself is the best medicine for a broken heart.

Donât feel bad if you didnât see the warning signs until your child was in trouble or until someone told you about a drug problem in your family. When most parents find out about their childâs drug abuse, they feel shocked and stunned and wonder where they went wrong. more... America's grandparents believe they are sharing a number of roles with parents in raising their grandchildren. More than half believe they are making a very important contribution to the lives of their grandchildren. Among the most important tasks that grandparents take on is talking with their grandchildren about a variety of issues. Preschool Express By Jean Warren (Note Necklace activities require adult supervision.). VALENTINE MAIL Take advantage of Valentine s day to teach your child something about how the mail works. http://www.preschoolexpress.com/holiday_station02/holiday_station_feb02.shtml
Extractions: Let your child make a valentine for someone special. Give him a large heart cut from red paper. Set out such materials as yarn, ribbon, lace, rickrack, buttons, heart stickers, and glitter. Invite him to glue the materials onto the heart any way he wishes and help him add his name. Then let him glue his heart onto a paper doily to complete his valentine. Give your child a heart shape, about 3 inches tall, cut from red construction paper. Let her brush glue all over the heart. While the glue is still wet, have her sprinkle on some sugar for "sweetness." Allow the heart to dry. Then punch a hole in the top of the heart and let your child string it on a piece of red or white yarn to make a necklace. (Note: Necklace activities require adult supervision.) Take advantage of Valentine's Day to teach your child something about how the mail works. Invite him to make a valentine for a person, a pet, or a stuffed animal at your home. Let him put the valentine in an envelope and watch as you address it. Give him a stamp to add. Then together, take the valentine to a post office or a mailbox and let your child mail it. Over the next few days, encourage him to watch for the mail carrier to deliver the valentine to your mailbox.
