Extractions: Tel: 801-585-7504 Thanks to the pioneering efforts of some leading consumer research scholars, visual qualitative consumer research has become one of the fastest growing areas of inquiry. Many recent entrants to the consumer research field have embraced the tools and techniques of visual qualitative research with considerable success. In the past two years, the ACR Film Festival has become a well established venue for presentation of research at the annual ACR conference. In 2002, Professors Russ Belk and Rob Kozinets offered the first videographic workshop for doctoral students and faculty, hosted at the Multi-media Center of the Marriott Library at the University of Utah. This workshop was attended by researchers from 7 different countries, and was highly evaluated by the participants. A number of the participants in this 2002 workshop have gone on to produce films that have been shown at ACR conferences, used in market research, included in consumer behavior textbook packages, and employed in the classroom. This workshop is designed to provide an enriching learning experience for consumer researchers both at the early stage of their careers and those who are well established in the field.

"As you know," said Kirk Wright, superintendent, "we are back on approved status." The school was placed on probation and some adjustments were made the last year when the school was evaluated for accreditation, said Wright. The probation status was, largely, a mistake in communication. As in all rural schools, some teachers are teaching classes in addition to their primary fields of study. However, all have received endorsements by the state.

Extractions: Times-News Correspondent Juab School District board members have some concern about the consistency, year to year, of the methods used to re-accredit schools. Superintendent Kirk Wright and board member, Delanie Hathaway, attended the last state school board meeting to complain about the way the accreditation is conducted and results compiled. "The upshot is that our patrons need to know we are certified and we will remain certified," said Leon Pexton, Juab School Board president. "We intend to resolve any issues and are pledged to maintain a high standard of education for those who attend our schools." The Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges issued the warning to nine Utah schools recently for having too few teachers, counselors, librarians or administrators for the number of students they serve per professional educator. Juab High School was one of nine Utah high schools warned to make changes or they may lose their national accreditation.

Extractions: Many of the Big Books that the Foundation hopes to purchase are informational texts in the areas of science, social studies and math. Many of these books cover the state required CORE curriculum (standards and objectives which are required to be learned in each subject for each grade) and can greatly help the teachers teach that curriculum since most schools do not have science or social studies text books for the lower grades. Use of these books also have the advantage of allowing students to be exposed to informational writing at a younger age, instead of what most often currently happens- a seventh grader has to suddenly decipher a science text after an elementary school career of reading only literature. The Foundation is seeking donations from individuals and businesses in order to obtain these valuable tools for District teachers. Each Big Book set costs approximately $50. Donors will be recognized by having their names printed on the inside cover of the books so that teachers and students using the books will be able to appreciate the generosity of such donor. Memorial donations are encouraged as well.
